In the Hulu series “Nine Perfect Strangers,” actress Nicole Kidman welcomes visitors to Tranquillum House, an elite wellness retreat claiming to offer healing and transformation. Adapted from Liane Moriarty’s novel, the show appears ripe for tantalizing fictional intrigues, intimate revelations, and heated disputes. Yet, much like the first season, the second installment of Kidman’s drama has received a less-than-ideal reception, earning only 44% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Beginning on Hulu tomorrow with the initial two episodes, Keith Watson from the Daily Telegraph observes that it has a stylish appearance and discusses like a high-end TV series. However, according to him, Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2 is “an empty, self-indulgent emotional void.” That hurts! Similarly, Kayleigh Donaldson’s review for The Wrap doesn’t paint a brighter picture, stating that it also lacks substance: “a hollow, self-indulgent display of emotion.” Ouch indeed!

The entertainment offers excitement comparable to finding jewels at the bottom of a shallow bottle of sparkling wine. However, much like sipping a low-dose beverage, the lingering impact is subtle.

Kylie Northover from the Sydney Morning Herald notes that beyond some immature remarks about wealth and status, there’s not much substance to this piece. Similarly, Kristen Baldwin from Entertainment Weekly delivered a scathing C-grade critique, stating:

Despite the eight episodes containing numerous surprises, such as a revelation towards the end that seems familiar from season 1, the series Nine Perfect Strangers overlooked an essential component for its tale – enjoyment.

More to come…
