Eric Stonestreet and Lindsay Schweitzer secretly tied the knot last September after dating for a long time.
Eric Stonestreet, 54, known for his role on ‘Modern Family,’ recently explained that he intentionally kept the wedding very small and private, and therefore didn’t invite any of his former castmates from the show, which aired for 11 seasons between 2009 and 2020.
Oh my gosh, you guys, I was listening to Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s podcast, ‘Dinner’s on Me,’ and Eric Stonestreet – Eric Stonestreet! – was talking about why he’s been so quiet lately. Apparently, he told Jesse – who, let’s be real, was his husband on the show, it still makes me tear up! – that he just really, really didn’t want to accidentally upset anyone. People magazine reported it, so it’s totally true! He’s just the sweetest, most considerate person ever, honestly.
Last September, Stonestreet and Schweitzer got married privately at their new home in Kansas City, Missouri.
The day after his wedding, actor Josh Stonestreet shared photos from the celebration on Instagram. He also revealed he’d lost 85 pounds using the medication Mountjaro to manage his type 2 diabetes.
Stonestreet didn’t invite any of his former colleagues from the show to his wedding, including well-known actors like Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Sofia Vergara, and Eric Stonestreet himself.
When Stonestreet announced the news on social media, Ferguson excitedly commented, ‘This is the best second marriage! I love you both and am so happy for you!’
‘I mean, I only found out a few days before everyone else,’ Ferguson, 50, noted on his podcast.
Stonestreet called a handful of friends, including Ferguson, to let them know about the wedding, but most people found out afterward.
‘I hate saying it, but, like, we didn’t invite anyone to our wedding other than our family,’ Stonestreet revealed.
Instead of formal invitations, we called people before the wedding to let them know – basically, a heads-up that we loved them and wanted them to hear the news directly from us.
I was so excited when Stonestreet started telling us the story! He explained that they had a small group of people they told beforehand. Then, as soon as they were married, they sent out a text message to everyone – he joked that it was because he’s a pretty well-known guy, so they had a lot of people to tell! It was a really sweet and funny detail.
‘I didn’t want to offend anyone, but I also didn’t want to tell anyone.
We’d kept the relationship private from our family, and I wasn’t planning on revealing everything all at once. It just felt wrong to get married without letting you and others who care about us know what was happening.
Stonestreet and his future wife decided to tell her twin sons – from a previous relationship – about their wedding plans as soon as the boys got home from school. They wanted to make sure the boys wouldn’t feel like they had to hide anything or act strangely at school.
Stonestreet remembered that after the children came home from school, they had a conversation with them. He said the kids seemed confused, simply responding with, “What?”
Oh my gosh, can you believe it? He said that practically no one from his family even knew it was a wedding! They genuinely thought they were just being invited over for the first dinner at his and her new place. It’s like, they were totally clueless! I’m obsessed with every little detail of their life, and this is just… amazing and so them. It’s so lowkey and perfect, I can’t even!
Ferguson said he wasn’t upset about being left off the guest list for his Modern Family costar’s wedding, but he would have been surprised if he hadn’t received some advance notice.
I’m really happy you reached out,” Ferguson said. “I wouldn’t have been upset, but I definitely would have been surprised.” Ferguson has been married to Justin Mikita since 2013.
Stonestreet had dated the pediatric nurse for five years before he proposed in 2021.
You know, after being with someone for a while, you really start to recognize what you have. For me, with Lindsay, it just became clear she was the one – I honestly couldn’t imagine a better life partner. It felt like the natural next step, and honestly, I wasn’t in any rush, I wanted to be sure!
He explained that everyone who knew Lindsay kept asking him why he hadn’t acted already, and he felt it was finally the right moment.
Honestly, when Stonestreet first brought it up, I thought it had to be a prank! The guy is famous for them, you know? I mean, it’s just so typical of him, always trying to pull something. At first, I couldn’t believe it was serious, knowing his history!
During a February 2022 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Stonestreet jokingly admitted he was determined to meet her, acknowledging his own public image in the process.
Stonestreet explained that he asked Schweitzer to coordinate hair and makeup for a planned social media post they were doing together.
Her twin sons were in on the surprise, letting their mom know that Stonestreet had a question for her. She was completely shocked when he proposed, but she happily accepted!
