
2026 has already seen a number of sad losses in the entertainment industry, and the recent death of Eric Dane, known for his roles in Grey’s Anatomy and Charmed, has deeply affected many. Dane passed away on February 19th at the age of 53 after a long struggle with ALS, leaving behind a significant body of work in film and television. Since the news of his death, fans and colleagues have shared heartfelt tributes and cherished memories of his performances and collaborations.
Just over a week after actor Dane passed away, People magazine confirmed the cause of his death. According to his death certificate from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, he died from respiratory failure, with ALS listed as a contributing factor. Dane had publicly shared his diagnosis of ALS in April 2025, and sadly passed away less than a year later.

Patrick Dempsey from Grey’s said Dane was genuinely the funniest person and a total joy to work with – they had amazing chemistry. And Kim Raver described him as a ‘light’ on set, someone who always had this playful sparkle in his eyes. It’s clear he brought so much warmth and fun to everyone around him.
Dane DeHaan completed his work on the upcoming season of Euphoria before his passing, reprising his role as Cal Jacobs. Though Cal’s fate remains unknown after his character’s death, the show’s creator, Sam Levinson, expressed his respect and condolences to DeHaan’s family. DeHaan had hinted that this season would explore a pivotal and potentially redemptive moment for Cal, promising a moving conclusion to his storyline.
