Eric Dane shares blunt response about his acting career amid ALS battle
Eric Dane was straightforward when asked if he intends to carry on acting given his challenging fight against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a relentless and incurable neurological disorder.
The 52-year-old, who was previously on Grey’s Anatomy, told E! News on Tuesday that he plans to keep using it until it breaks down completely.
‘It keeps me sharp. It keeps me moving forward, which is super important right now.’
Despite having lost the function of his dominant right arm since being diagnosed with ALS a year ago, Eric maintains that he still feels fantastic while on the job.
‘Of course, there have been some sort of setbacks,’ Dane admitted.
However, I find myself feeling quite well. Generally, my spirits are high, so in the grand scheme of things, that’s what truly counts in the long run.
Catch me, your dedicated follower, as I step into the role of Special Agent Nathan Blythe, winner of the SAG Award, in Derek Haas’ gripping new 13-episode crime drama Countdown. Tune in June 25th to Amazon Prime Video for the premiere!
In simpler terms, Eric’s fellow actor, Jensen Ackles, noted that Eric exhibited a ‘beautiful, quiet leadership’ which was ‘extremely valuable’ during their work on Countdown. He further explained that this quality was particularly beneficial in fostering a team dynamic, both on and off camera.
More recently, Dane has once again taken on the character of Cal Jacobs, a secretive real estate agent, in the third season of the popular HBO series “Euphoria.” The show is helmed by and features Zendaya portraying Ruby ‘Rue’ Bennett.
‘I’ve shot already,’ the San Francisco-born silver fox teased. ‘It’s good.’
In the third season of Sam Levinson’s intense drama series, we’ll see fresh faces such as Sharon Stone, RosalĂa, Marshawn Lynch, and Kadeem Hardison joining the cast.
However, there’s some ambiguity regarding the current situation of Malik Vitthal’s upcoming wedding thriller, Family Secrets, filmed in Montenegro and set for release in 2023, where Eric is portrayed as the family patriarch.
Furthermore, it is well-known that Eric Dane gained considerable fame by playing the role of Mark ‘McSteamy’ Sloan, a plastic surgeon, in the ABC medical series Grey’s Anatomy from 2006 to 2012.
Currently, the high-octane action star from the “Bad Boys” series is under medical care, using prescribed drugs to manage his symptoms, and he’s also enrolled in a scientific research program.
Eric told Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America on Monday, “If doctors said it would be beneficial, I’d travel to Germany and consume a rattlesnake’s head.
‘I’ll assume the risk.’

Dan is concerned that within the next few months, he might lose the ability to use his left hand, and he’s equally anxious about potential issues with his legs.
‘Sobering,’ the father-of-two admitted.
I’m quite optimistic, indeed. I believe that this chapter in my life isn’t the final one. Given my strong spirit, I find it hard to accept that this is the end for me.
Generally speaking, individuals diagnosed with ALS can expect to live anywhere from two to five years after their initial symptoms appear. However, FDA-approved medications and both physical and speech therapies may help delay the onset and advancement of this condition.
