Eric Dane powerfully vows to ‘fight until last breath’ amid ALS battle… after being seen in wheelchair and struggling to speak

Eric Dane is continuing to fight despite a recent, difficult update regarding the worsening of his condition with ALS. He remains determined even as his health declines.

In a recent interview with California congressman Eric Swalwell, the 52-year-old actor shared his hopeful outlook on the future, mentioning his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and their two children: 15-year-old Billie Beatrice and 13-year-old Georgia Geraldine.

The politician recently shared a video on their social media account featuring the actor courageously stating: ‘I wanna ring every bell.

Oh my gosh, you have no idea how much I relate! I’m a total family person, and honestly, all I dream about is seeing my own daughters – I have two at home – achieve their dreams. I just want to be there for their college graduation, witness them find love and, who knows, maybe even become a grandma someday! It’s everything to me, seriously!

Last month, fans grew worried when the Grey’s Anatomy star didn’t attend the Emmys. This came only five months after he publicly shared his diagnosis of ALS.

Dane continued by saying: ‘I really want to be involved in everything. Therefore, I’m going to keep fighting with all my strength until the very end.’

During the meeting, the actor and government official were joined by doctors and people from the I Am ALS organization. They discussed getting federal funding to help people with the severe neurological disease, ALS.

Dane continued: ‘ALS is the last thing they want to diagnose anybody with.

Diagnosing these individuals often takes a significant amount of time. This delay unfortunately prevents them from participating in crucial clinical trials. That’s where Act for ALS is so valuable – it expands access to treatment for everyone.

This news arrived just a week after his wife shared details on how their family is coping with his deeply sad ALS diagnosis.

She revealed that their daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, are receiving support from therapists while their father copes with a worsening neurological condition. This disease progressively affects the nervous system.

‘It’s just devastating,’ she shared with People magazine in an interview released on Saturday. ‘My daughters are deeply hurting, and we’re focusing on coping with everything. This is a really difficult period.’

Though their family is ‘really struggling,’ she said they are ‘taking it day by day.’

We’re working with skilled therapists, and we’re focusing on maintaining hope and approaching the situation with dignity, grace, and love.

To be honest, as a longtime follower, I was struck by her recent honesty. She admitted that she’s still struggling, saying, ‘I don’t think I’m at a place yet where I can pull out a positive nugget. I’m not there yet.’ It’s so refreshing to hear someone be real, even when things are tough, and it really resonated with me that she wasn’t trying to force a happy spin on things. She’s just being honest about where she is, and I appreciate that.

The actress, 54, married Dane in 2004.

Oh my gosh, I was *so* worried when I heard they were getting divorced back in 2018! They’d been married for 14 years, which seemed like forever, and it just felt… wrong. But then, can you believe it? Seven years later, they called the whole thing off! I was thrilled, honestly. It’s like a dream come true for a fan like me to see them back together. I’ve been following them since the beginning, and this is just… amazing!

Dane shared news of his medical diagnosis just a month after Gayheart asked the court to drop her divorce case.

Well, there’s clearly something significant that has connected us all, and Eric will always be family to me, regardless of our marital status or where we live. However, we’re brought closer by something we wish hadn’t happened,” she explained.

She stated: ‘It’s a truly awful illness, and I really wish a cure existed. I’m hopeful that researchers will discover one quickly, as it’s incredibly heartbreaking.’

Earlier in the year, Dane shared that he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a condition that impacts the nervous system, specifically the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. According to the Mayo Clinic, this leads to a progressive loss of muscle control and eventually paralysis as the disease progresses.

As someone who follows celebrity wellness, I was really touched by Good Morning America’s recent interview with the Euphoria star. Just a few months after sharing his diagnosis, he opened up to Diane Sawyer about how he’s been coping and processing everything during this challenging time in his health journey. It’s incredibly brave of him to share so openly.

He said he wakes up each day to the stark reality of the situation. It’s not a dream, he admitted.

Earlier this month, Dane didn’t attend the Emmys, even though he was scheduled to appear and present an award alongside his Grey’s Anatomy co-star, Jesse Williams.

Williams ended up presenting alone onstage and made no mention of Dane’s absence.

The following day, Dane virtually announced that he was working with the nonprofit I AM ALS.

In the video, Dane encouraged people to donate for the cause to find a cure.

‘I’m Eric, an actor, a father and now a person living with ALS,’ he said in the video.

ALS has remained untreatable for more than 100 years, and we’ve decided it’s time for a change. We’re committed to finding a cure as quickly as possible, which is why I’ve joined forces with I AM ALS for the Push for Progress. Our aim is to raise $1 billion over the next three years.

He went on to say, ‘Working together, we’ll update the important law, the Act for ALS, making potentially helpful treatments available to thousands of people, including myself, and ultimately, we’ll strive to eliminate this disease.’

Act for ALS is a law that was signed in 2021 and is set to expire in 2026.

The bill requested that the Department of Health and Human Services assist patients in getting financial support for treatments they couldn’t otherwise afford.

It also authorized the Food and Drug Administration to dedicate funds to finding a cure.
