ER star who quit the show at peak of its fame and later retired from acting is seen in rare snap

Instead of starring in one of TV’s most popular series, reaching the pinnacle of her professional journey, this actress chose to prioritize her personal life by stepping back from the show.

The actress, who is currently 58 years old, was one of the original stars on the ER show, appearing alongside George Clooney, Noah Wyle, Julianna Margulies, Eriq LaSalle, and Anthony Edwards.

An image of Sherry Stringfield, known for playing Dr. Susan Lewis in the Emmy-winning series, emerged on social media again. This was taken around 1997, approximately three years before the end of her five-year deal with the show.

In the 2022 photograph, Stringfield is seen sporting silver hair alongside a younger individual, believed to be her son Milo Joseph, who is 21 years old.

stringfield expressed a desire to reside near her boyfriend, who was based in New York City at that moment.

Additionally, the actress mentioned that she was drained due to the long, 18-hour workdays that both the cast and team were required to endure in order to bring the critically acclaimed drama series to your screens.

As a devoted devotee, I found myself struck by a common cold, but work was relentless. Then, the flu took hold, followed by a high fever. Yet, despite my state, I continued to show up for duty, taking brief respite on gurneys between scenes. Exerting all my strength, pushing through the pain, until at last, my body cried out, “Enough is enough!” This was the account given by Stringfield in 1997 to Entertainment Weekly, detailing her battle with pneumonia and viral meningitis.

In March 2001, when Phoebe was born, it was this event that led her to understand the necessity of having a regular job structure in her life.

Six months later, she requested a visit back to the Emergency Room, following the arrival of her first child with her former husband, Larry Joseph.

According to the Emmy nominee, series television can be either a nightmare or an absolute delight, and this seems to depend significantly on one’s current stage in life.

This time around, having a family feels more manageable due to the immovability that comes with having a child. Previously, I found myself yearning for structure, and now, I’m genuinely appreciating the routine I have established.

Despite initially feeling baffled and irritated by her departure, the producers warmly embraced her return.

She described the rehiring process as follows: ‘I had a meeting with John Wells, and I expressed my desire to return. He responded positively, saying they would be happy to have me back. After that, I relocated, read the initial script, and showed up for work. The process was surprisingly straightforward.’

She remained with ER until the conclusion of season 11, but her character’s departure was executed quietly without any special attention.

As I diligently nurtured my family, I didn’t shy away from acting opportunities. Instead, I found myself taking on smaller roles from time to time.

She had a nine episode run in the sci-fi series Under the Dome in 2014.

2017 marked the end of her recent projects, during which she featured in a total of four episodes on Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.
