Episodes of Arcane, Heartstopper, and other Netflix shows leak; more to come?

As a seasoned viewer of countless shows across various platforms, I can’t help but feel a sense of deja vu when it comes to these leaks. It seems like every few months, we’re faced with yet another premature peek into our favorite shows.

A few days ago, the final episode of HBO’s “House of the Dragon” accidentally surfaced online, due to an inadvertent release from a foreign distribution partner. Leaks of episodes for both “Game of Thrones” and “House of the Dragon” have been occurring for quite some time, so while this incident must have been frustrating for Warner Bros. Discovery, they’ve dealt with similar situations before.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve found myself in a similar predicament with the gaming community. Lately, it seems like some exciting new seasons and shows are getting leaked left and right. For instance, episodes from the upcoming seasons of “Heartstopper” (premiering October 3) and “Arcane” (due out in November), as well as “Terminator Zero” (releasing on August 29), have been popping up online unexpectedly. It’s a bummer, really. The folks at Netflix admitted that one of their post-production partners has been compromised, and footage from several of their titles has unfortunately ended up online. They’re working hard to get it taken down as quickly as possible.

The streaming platform specializing in anime, Crunchyroll, experienced a setback as well, with early releases of shows like Re:Zero, Ranma 1/2 and Dandadan. In response, they’ve launched an investigation to trace the source of this leak and are actively working to remove these unauthorized episodes.

Digital distribution often leads to such incidents. So far, no streaming platform has found an absolute solution to prevent them. I suspect that leaks will continue to occur in the future.

Episodes of Stranger Things season 5 to leak?

It’s difficult to confirm, but rumors suggest that a hacker might have obtained the initial three episodes from the final season of Stranger Things (the fifth season), and is allegedly planning to leak them online this Wednesday, as reported by Forbes.

It appears that the rumor about leaked episodes of “Stranger Things” may be unfounded, given that they are currently filming the fifth season and have only just passed the midpoint. I find it doubtful that any episodes would be ready for leak at this stage. However, we’ll know more by Wednesday. If there is indeed leaked footage from “Stranger Things,” which is one of Netflix’s most popular shows, it could escalate the issue of unauthorized releases significantly, especially considering its 2025 release date.
