“Epic” Netflix reboot renewed for season 2 ahead of first season premiere

Even before its release, Netflix has ordered a second season of its new take on Little House on the Prairie. The show, a fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s beloved books, will begin streaming on July 9th.

I’m really excited about this reboot! It’s being led by Rebecca Sonnenshine, who did amazing work as a producer on The Boys and also wrote the script for The Housemaid – that movie with Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried was fantastic, so I have high hopes!

Regarding the show’s renewal, Sonnenshine expressed gratitude for the amazing cast and crew, acknowledging their dedication and hard work in bringing the first season to life.

We’re excited to finally reveal our new take on the Little House series, and we’re happy to be working with Netflix to bring this story to life.

As a huge fan, I was so excited to hear that Netflix is bringing back this amazing new take on Little House on the Prairie! Jinny Howe, who heads up scripted series for the US and Canada, announced they’re renewing it for a second season before the first one even hits Netflix – that’s how much faith they have in it, and honestly, I totally get why!

Rebecca Sonnenshine and everyone involved in Season 1 did an amazing job, creating a strong and compelling story that will continue to resonate for years. We believe the show’s heartwarming nature and genuine emotion will give fans even more to enjoy in the future.

Alice Halsey, known for her role in Lessons in Chemistry, will star as Laura Ingalls in the new version of the story. Crosby Fitzgerald and Luke Bracey will play her parents, Caroline and Charles Ingalls, and Skywalker Hughes will portray her sister, Mary.

Little House on the Prairie is a story that blends family life with the challenges of surviving on the American frontier, offering a broad look at the hardships and successes of the people who built the West.

Blanche Hanalis first turned Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books into a popular TV show in the 1970s. It ran on NBC for nine seasons and was a big hit.

Ed Friendly first bought the rights to Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books, hoping to make a movie based on them. But disagreements with Michael Landon, who was set to play Charles, led to Friendly leaving the project.

Trip Friendly, son of the original series’ creator and now an executive producer on the reboot, has long wanted to continue his father’s work. He aims to update the classic stories for modern viewers while still appealing to fans of both the books and the original show.

Little House on the Prairie premieres on Netflix on 9 July.
