Epic Games announces withdrawal of Fortnite from the Samsung Galaxy Store
As a long-time Fortnite fan and avid Samsung user, I was taken aback by the recent news that Epic Games would be withdrawing their popular battle royale game from the Samsung Galaxy Store. The decision comes after Samsung’s announcement to block side-loading by default on new Android devices.
Samsung Galaxy Store users must look for other methods to download Fortnite since Epic Games has decided to remove it in response to Samsung’s default blocking of side-loading on their Android devices. This action was announced after information surfaced from the Epic versus Google legal case.
The Epic Games Store offers developers favorable terms, including no fee for third-party payments
On the 25th of July, 2024, I checked the Epic Games website for any updates on new games or features. To my excitement, they announced their new game strategy for Mobile Stores. They shared some great news for me and other European gamers: Fortnite is coming back to iOS devices in the EU! Plus, an even bigger surprise, the Epic Games Store will be accessible on Android devices globally soon.
In response to Samsung’s decision to disable side-loading by default on their newest devices like the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Z Fold6, Epic Games has chosen to withdraw Fortnite and other games from the Samsung Galaxy Store as a form of protest.
Additionally, the developers disclosed that Fortnite would be available on other app markets outside of the App Store. Epic intends to make its mobile games accessible through the EU’s AltStore on iOS and expects to announce support for at least two more third-party platforms in the near future.

At the Epic Games Store, developers are given attractive conditions such as a 12% commission on transactions processed by Epic and no charge for payments made through third parties. Additionally, Epic intends to cease collaborations with mobile marketplaces deemed unjust, regardless of exclusive deals for Epic’s games. This action is aimed at fostering a level playing field in app stores for iOS and Android.
