“Enjoyably gritty” spy thriller packed with “gripping action” is trending now on this UK streamer

Spy thriller Alex Rider has trended on UK streamer Prime Video.

Based on the Anthony Horowitz book series, the show initially debuted on a streaming platform in 2020, later shifting to IMDb TV for seasons two, and finally airing its last season on Amazon Freevee.

It seems the initial episodes of the show are experiencing renewed popularity, as they are currently trending on Amazon Prime Video.

Alex Rider embarks on an adventure as the title character, portrayed by Otto Farrant, gets enlisted by a branch of MI6 to become a secret agent.

The first season draws inspiration from Horowitz’s second novel, titled “Point Blanc”, and the subsequent seasons are adapted from “Eagle Strike” in the second book and “Scorpia” in the third.

The initial season of the show received widespread praise, boasting a remarkable 86% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes after being reviewed by 28 critics.

In the review by Digital Spy for the show, we referred to it as a “streamlined, swift-moving and pleasantly rough-edged rendition” of the book. This adaptation stays faithful to its origins, but fortunately discards some of the outdated (and one might even say absurd) elements that were present in the 2001 novel.

The Globe and Mail referred to it as an “engrossing series filled with entertainment,” commending its “espionage, deception, underhanded dealings, youthful excitement, and intense action scenes.” Meanwhile, CBR described it as a “well-told espionage story with appealing characters.

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to be playing alongside stars like Stephen Dillane from “Game of Thrones,” Brenock O’Connor from the same series, Vicky McClure known for “Line of Duty,” Andrew Buchan famous for “Broadchurch,” and Ronkẹ Adékoluẹjo, who’s been on “Doctor Who.” It’s an incredible cast!

Alex Rider is available to stream now on Prime Video.

The latest print edition from Digital Spy, titled “Oasis – Live in ’25”, is available for purchase! Grab your copy at local newsagents or online for only £8.99.
