In simpler terms, Tamara Drewe – as depicted in the comic strip – is a contemporary adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s 1874 novel Far from the Madding Crowd.

In this revised version, let’s say that Arterton plays the leading role, portraying a former London-based journalist who has undergone a noticeable nose change upon her return to the quaint coastal town of Dorset where she was raised.

In simpler terms, Evans portrays Andy, a character who’s long harbored feelings for Tamara. On the other hand, Cooper takes on the role of a band drummer whom Tamara starts dating.

Not only does Tamara’s love life become complicated upon arrival, but it stirs quite a commotion throughout the entire town as well.

Stephen Frears, known for films like “High Fidelity” and “Philomena,” is in charge of directing, while Moira Buffini, who crafted an adaptation of “Jane Eyre,” wrote the screenplay.

Upon its premiere, the New York Post referred to the film as an “old-school audience delight.

The New York Times stated that the content is not belittling to the audience, instead it appeals to their sophisticated understanding in a non-complex manner. Moreover, it is straightforward when discussing sexual topics.

As a devoted enthusiast, I’d say this film, according to Digital Spy’s 2010 review, is a charming, light-hearted journey through the countryside. It’s filled with laughter, a touch of spice, and boasts exceptional performances that make it delightfully entertaining.

The latest print issue from Digital Spy, titled “Oasis – Live in ’25”, is available for purchase! You can find it at your local newsstands or buy it online, currently priced at an affordable £8.99.
