Emotional Farewell: Torvill and Dean’s Last Dance on Ice Amid Show’s Uncertain Future
In the finale of Dancing On Ice, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean wrapped up their ice skating journey emotionally with a captivating performance on Sunday.
In the show, co-hosted by Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern, Sam Aston from Coronation Street was declared the winner as the 2025 champion.
Just before the outcomes were revealed, Jayne and Christopher skated one final time as they were preparing for their retirement.
Holly announced ‘We have a piece of television history for you.’
Co-host Stephen mentioned, “Torvill and Dean have graced our television screens for a duration that feels like forever to many of us.
In 1984, an astounding 24 million viewers in the United Kingdom tuned in to witness their victory that earned them an Olympic gold medal.

Holly went on to say: “They’ve been dancing on the ‘Dancing On Ice’ stage since 2006, and tonight marks their final televised performance.
In a previously recorded conversation, Chris expressed: ‘It’s quite touching. Our aim was to involve as many experts as possible.’
‘Going out there for our last performance, it’s our Olympics again. We just want it to be perfect.
‘We’re hanging up our skates for good, and what could be more fitting than performing one last time on Dancing On Ice?’
Jayne stated: “When they requested us to participate in Dancing On Ice, it was for choreography. At that point, we had already retired. They asked us to showcase some of the technical moves with music, and we responded, ‘That sounds like a routine’.
‘There we go, we were back performing again.’
‘We were doing performances every week and we loved it,’ Chris added.
Jayne summarized: “Since we’ve been ice-skating as a team for 50 years and tonight marks our last performance on Dancing On Ice, we aimed to create something truly extraordinary.

In 1995’s smash “Lifted” by Lighthouse Family, they harmonized alongside the show’s experts, who joined them towards the finale.
According to reports, it appears that “Dancing On Ice” might be canceled, given its decline in viewership over the past two years, dropping more than a million viewers. Staff members have been informed that the show, which they feel has grown stale, may no longer continue.
As reported by The Sun, there’s a possibility that the series might take a break, then be reworked and reintroduced at a future time, much like what happened when the show got canceled in 2014 and returned four years after.
According to a source, the viewing numbers have noticeably decreased compared to earlier times, yet nearly three million people tuned in for the launch event. It can’t be argued that the format seems less fresh than before, and they’re no longer attracting the high-profile stars as they used to.
It seems that changes are essential, and there’s a strong possibility that the current state will undergo a rest and revitalization. However, the staff members don’t seem to have high expectations for this change.
The continuation of the show depends on the discussions following last night’s finale, as ‘Dancing On Ice’ is a costly production and there are doubts about whether ITV is receiving good value for their investment.
TopMob has contacted representatives for Dancing On Ice for comment.

According to a recent report, a source shared with The Mirror: “There are genuine concerns that Dancing on Ice may be coming to an end. It’s been running for almost 20 years and has built up a devoted fanbase who adore it, but the unfortunate reality is that its viewership numbers aren’t large enough.
We require more people attending our events, but the attendance numbers have fallen significantly, making it challenging to cover the expenses associated with them.
The fate of Dancing On Ice hung in the balance before the current season, as the lead judges Torvill and Dean announced their intentions to retire from skating, culminating in a final performance on Sunday.
A representative from ITV stated that since they are completely focused on the eagerly awaited series finale airing this upcoming Sunday, no decision has been made yet.
Currently, according to sources within ITV, Holly has other obligations keeping her occupied, preventing her from returning to the game show where she co-hosted a two-part special with Stephen last year.
