As a seasoned lifestyle guide, I find myself compelled to share a recent development in the world of daytime dramas. Much like my own life’s journey, the path of an Emmerdale character can be unpredictable and filled with twists. In this instance, the actress Martelle Edinborough, who portrayed Suzy Merton, has seemingly hinted at a less than amicable departure from the soap opera after three years.
In the face of ITV budget reductions and a significant reduction in staff, an unfortunate incident occurred when a limousine filled with cherished village inhabitants crashed into a frozen lake. The event organizer met a tragic demise under these circumstances.
In the intense episodes that were broadcasted last month, Suzy tragically perished together with long-time cast member Leyla Harding (portrayed by Roxy Shahidi), who had been a part of the series for an impressive 16 years.
As reported by The Sun, actress Martelle posted a series of fresh headshots on Instagram following her departure, accompanied by an enigmatic comment.
Martelle, who had been a part of the show for three years, penned down: ‘Certain doors shut because your soul has grown beyond the space they encompass.’

The soap, reportedly, has been selling memorabilia on eBay for as low as 99 pence due to the continuous budget reductions at ITV. (or)
The soap is said to have been listing items on eBay for as little as 99p because of the ongoing budget cuts at ITV.
Enthusiasts of the series can acquire real-life props from their beloved characters or scenes at an affordable price.
Among the discounted items is a wedding invitation box from the troubled nuptials between Kim Tate and Will Taylor. Their wedding day was filled with strife and deceit, as Will orchestrated schemes to embarrass and swindle his new spouse.
In this version, I’ve tried to make it more conversational and easier to read, while still maintaining the original meaning and style.
For those who are particularly fond of soaps and desire a cherished memento from the captivating wedding – an elegant white invitation featuring intricate laser-cut designs and a satin bow – it would be wise to act promptly, as bids have already climbed up to £23, as reported by The Sun.
Currently, a brown leather wallet previously owned by Will, who has just been let go from the show, is currently being auctioned off for approximately £12.
Among other auction items is a hip flask previously owned by Rose Taylor (Christine Tremarco). The newspaper reports that six competitors have been vying for it, pushing the current bid up to £12.50 as of now.
Up for grabs, along with Nicky Milligan’s bronze basketball medal, is a travel mug showcasing the Home James Haulage emblem as well.
Among the options available, you can find a paper mask adorned with Marlon Dingle’s (Mark Charnock) likeness for an incredibly affordable price of only 99 pennies.

Everything you see is up for grabs at the ITV Reloved eBay store, the authentic secondary marketplace run by ITV where they sell props, costumes, and other items that were once used on their shows.
Although the resale store, established in collaboration with PropUp Project, started operations back in 2024, it emerges during a period when the broadcaster is said to be facing a financial crunch.
Recently, it came to light that ITV plans to let go approximately 75 employees due to significant budget reductions in two of their most prominent programs, as part of a broader cost-cutting measure.
The broadcaster has already announced that popular soap operas Coronation Street and Emmerdale will adjust their airing schedule, as they face significant cuts in funding.
Approximately 12.5% of the staff, numbering 600 and working on both shows, may face potential layoffs.
This also involves authors, team members, and sometimes performers, as they initiate the reduction of their work – with most of the layoffs seemingly happening within production stages, though.
In February, it was requested that affected employees attend a formal gathering, causing some of them to cry, according to The Sun.
In the current schedule, Emmerdale broadcasts six episodes every week from Monday through Friday, with two episodes airing together on Thursdays.
In addition, Coronation Street broadcasts six shows a week, specifically two episodes on both Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Currently, only five 30-minute episodes of each series will be aired, which represents a reduction of 17% in the amount of soap opera programming shown on television.
Starting from Monday, managers are going to add a “Soap Hour Power Block” into the schedule. From 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM every weekday, you’ll be able to watch 30-minute episodes of Emmerdale, followed by 30-minute episodes of Coronation Street at 8:30 PM.
However, each episode will continue to drop at 7am on ITVX before transmission that same evening.
2026’s new schedule will undoubtedly begin with flair, as both soap operas plan to execute a daring, unprecedented stunt during a series of unique, specially crafted episodes.
In the upcoming schedule, we’ve adjusted the episode length to 30 minutes based on research findings from 2024 which indicated a higher audience attraction for shorter episodes. This also allows us to serve more manageable segments of ongoing storylines, aligning better with the evolving viewing preferences of our audience.
In the United Kingdom, Coronation Street and Emmerdale are the most popular soap operas, collectively drawing in more than eight million weekly viewers.
