Emma Weymouth displays her svelte frame in glittering silver gown as she steps out in New York after opening up on being the first black woman to marry into British aristocracy

Emma Weymouth turned heads in New York City on Tuesday night, following the premiere of her reality series, Ladies of London, last week.

The Marchioness of Bath, age 39, looked stunning in a shimmering silver dress when she appeared in public. The gown featured a single shoulder strap and was completely covered in sparkling, rectangular crystals.

The dress highlighted her slim shape, and she completed the look with sparkling heels, diamond earrings, and glittery eyeshadow.

Emma seemed thrilled and successful after the first two episodes of the new “Ladies of London” series were released on Thursday, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from viewers.

The show originally aired from 2014 to 2017. Now, it’s back for a fourth season with a fresh start – a new cast and a new title: Ladies of London: The New Reign.

The Hayu show features London socialites, including Emma, along with familiar faces like Mark-Francis Vandelli, previously of Made in Chelsea, and Dara Huang, who is the mother of Princess Beatrice’s stepson.

The series quickly referenced Meghan Markle, with designer Lottie Kane noting similarities between the Duchess of Sussex and the character Emma right from the beginning.

Emma, who is married to Ceawlin Thynn, the 8th Marquess of Bath, has pointed out that she was the first Black woman to marry into an aristocratic family, a distinction she believes Meghan Markle sometimes claims.

Emma, the first Black woman to marry into the British aristocracy, shared that she is of mixed Nigerian and English heritage.

The media widely reported that I would be the first woman of color to achieve this position, and I recognize that, even now, I remain the only one.

Social media users reacted to Meghan Markle being referenced in the show, with one commenter highlighting the continued fascination with her, writing, ‘It’s amazing how people are still so focused on Meghan. She clearly has a strong influence!’

One person commented that mentioning Meghan Markle seemed like a tactic to gain attention, while another observed that the reality show #LadiesOfLondon subtly criticized her.

In April 2020, Emma became the first Black marchioness in British history after her father-in-law, Alexander Thynn, the 7th Marquess of Bath, passed away unexpectedly from coronavirus at the age of 87.

Later that year, in an interview with Tatler, she explained she didn’t want her race to be the primary way people saw her, and she also confessed she wasn’t entirely comfortable being considered a role model.

Emma, who has two sons – 11-year-old John and 9-year-old Henry – with Ceawlin, said she appreciates being mentioned positively. She’s thankful for being part of discussions where she’s seen as a force for good.

I view my job as very hands-on – taking care of my family and managing this large property. I hope for a future where people don’t focus on my race.

Lord Bath, famous for having relationships with around 70 women he referred to as ‘wifelets,’ and his wife, Anna Thynn, did not attend the 2013 wedding of Emma and Ceawlin.

Ceawlin stated that his mother, who passed away in 2022, questioned him about his actions, specifically asking if he was certain about potentially disrupting their family’s heritage due to Emma’s skin color. This conversation reportedly took place in 2015.

Anna stated she didn’t make the comment and insists she has no issues with her daughter-in-law. However, she admits to never having met her grandchildren, which Emma and her husband have previously said is a source of sadness for them.

In the first episode of Ladies of London, Emma described her aristocratic title and explained what it entailed, mentioning their impressive family home, Longleat House, which has an incredible 128 rooms.

Okay, so, I was listening to the Marchioness of Bath, and she started by just stating she’s the Marchioness – amazing, right?! Anyway, she was talking about what it even means to have a title these days, in 2025, and honestly, it was so insightful. She basically said for her, it’s all about the estate, Longleat House, and keeping the family history alive. It’s not just a name, it’s about everything connected to that place and those people. I totally get it, it’s a responsibility and a legacy!

I’m married to Ceawlin Thynn, the Marquess of Bath, and together we manage Longleat House. Longleat is a historic stately home, originally built in 1518 during the Elizabethan era, and it’s currently recognized as the largest house in the UK.

Longleat is a sprawling 10,000-acre estate filled with impressive art, antique furniture, and a library of over 44,000 books – a truly remarkable collection of beautiful objects.

Longleat is where we primarily live, but since the children attend school in London, I split my time between the two. Every day is different!

Emma received praise from her fellow cast members, and Mark-Francis described her as the perfect example of a modern aristocrat.

She’s stylish and current, yet she carries the responsibilities of being a prominent member of British aristocracy with remarkable poise.
