Emma Thompson and her nepo baby daughter Gaia Wise promote their new movie Dead Of Winter in Finland

Emma Thompson and Gaia Wise went back to Finland on Thursday to support the release of their new film, which was shot there.

The famous actress and her daughter both appear in the movie Dead Of Winter, which was filmed in the beautiful Koli region of North Karelia, Finland.

This week, they went to Helsinki to promote their new thriller and made sure their outfits matched for the photo opportunity.

Emma, 66, looked stylish in a black shirt and pants with an abstract design, while Gaia, 25, was beautifully dressed in a floral cardigan and short skirt.

In the film Dead of Winter, Emma portrays a woman who is widowed and journeying solo through the snowy landscapes of northern Minnesota when she unexpectedly stumbles upon a teenage girl being kidnapped.

Far from town and with no way to call for help, she understands she’s the only one who can protect the young girl.

Gaia plays a young Emma, showing her character’s transformation from a joyful and fulfilled person, through a difficult and traumatic experience, and ultimately becoming someone strong and ready to make sacrifices.

At the UK premiere of the film, Gaia shared with PA News Agency how much she enjoyed working with the cast and crew. She said she was thrilled to be part of the project and especially happy that filming allowed her to stay in her native Finland for the duration.

Since I was on call, the crew might ask us to step in and fix a scene if the weather caused problems, so we were always prepared for anything.

I simply wanted to experience the event firsthand, not just offer support. I was curious to witness it all and see how our shared history played out.

Gaia’s father, Greg Wise, is married to Dame Emma Thompson. He’s an actor known for roles in films like ‘Walking On Sunshine’ and he also competed on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

Emma has been happily married to her second husband Greg for 20 years.

Gaia began her acting career with a role in the BBC’s Silent Witness, playing Jo Reynolds, a university student whose mother – a politically sensitive health secretary – was murdered, which drew the attention of forensic experts.

Last year marked a major milestone in her career when she appeared in the animated film, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.

In 2021, Gaia shared her three-year struggle with anorexia, explaining that her parents saved her life by stepping in with an urgent intervention.

At 16, she developed anorexia, becoming dangerously thin to the point where even sitting was painful. She entered a rehabilitation program in 2017 to address the condition.

Gaia recently shared her struggles with anorexia for the first time in an interview with The Sun on Sunday. She explained that the illness led her to manipulate others, making them question their own sanity. She described how she would deny obvious things to her parents, like working out in the middle of the night. For example, when confronted about exercising at 3am, she would insist it hadn’t happened and blame the noise on something else, like the house settling, while claiming to be asleep.

Gaia shared that her family and close friends, including her brother Tindy and best friend, held an intervention for her. It followed Greg’s heartbreaking admission that he felt like he didn’t recognize her anymore, and Gaia ultimately agreed to enter a three-month rehabilitation program.

She said it felt like a harsh blow, explaining that she had to hear from people she’d grown distant from, telling her what she was doing wrong.

That’s when I decided to get help and checked into rehab on December 29, 2017. I spent three months there, and I’ve been in therapy ever since. I’m so thankful for the therapy, because it truly saved my life.
