Even though it came out over 20 years ago, Nanny McPhee is still loved by many. The beloved British family film, starring Emma Thompson, is currently popular on a streaming service in the UK.
The 2005 movie is inspired by the character of Nurse Matilda, created by Christianna Brand. It tells the story of a nanny (played by Emma Thompson) who arrives at the Brown family’s house to care for their seven badly behaved children, at the request of their father, Cedric (Colin Firth).
The family film, written by Thompson and directed by Kirk Jones – known for his recent work on I Swear – is currently doing well on Netflix, ranking at number 6 in the UK film chart according to Flix Patrol.

The film features a strong British cast alongside Thompson and Firth, including Kelly Macdonald, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Angela Lansbury, Imelda Staunton, and Celia Imrie, who plays the film’s villain, Selma Quickly.
When Nanny McPhee came out, it was mostly well-received by both critics and audiences. Currently, 74% of critics on Rotten Tomatoes have given it a positive review, based on 134 reviews. Viewers on IMDb have given it an average score of 6.6 out of 10, from over 91,000 ratings.
