Emma Stone achieved a historic feat at the Oscars, receiving two nominations for the film Bugonia – one for acting and another for producing.
At 37 years old, the actress known for her role in Superbad is now the youngest woman to ever receive seven nominations. However, she’s only the second-youngest person overall to achieve this, following the late Walt Disney, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Emma Stone is now the youngest actor to receive seven Oscar nominations, surpassing Meryl Streep, who was 38 when she earned her seventh nomination in 1988 for the film Ironweed.
The acclaimed 76-year-old actress has been nominated for an award 21 times and has won three times. She received awards for her supporting role in ‘Kramer vs. Kramer’ (1980), and for leading roles in ‘Sophie’s Choice’ (1983) and ‘The Iron Lady’ (2012).
The Eddington star previously won best actress for La La Land in 2017 and Poor Things in 2024.
Emma Stone, like Sigourney Weaver, Demi Moore, and Natalie Portman before her, shaved her head for a role. She did it on camera while playing Michelle Fuller, the cold and calculating CEO in Yorgos Lanthimos’ darkly funny film – a character who might even be an alien.
The actress, originally from Arizona, explained to the LA Times on January 5th that many of her roles are both emotionally and physically demanding.
Each of the three characters experiences isolation in unique ways. Michelle is cut off by her wealth and position as a CEO, while Teddy and Don are separated by their different backgrounds, which can reinforce their extreme beliefs – and those beliefs can also deepen their sense of isolation.
Emma Stone will be up against strong competition at the 98th Academy Awards on March 15th, airing on ABC and Hulu. She’s competing with Jessie Buckley, considered the favorite for her role in ‘Hamnet,’ along with Renate Reinsve, Rose Byrne, and Kate Hudson.
Will Tracy from Bugonia is up for Best Adapted Screenplay, and Jerskin Fendrix is nominated for Best Original Score.
Oh my gosh, you guys, Zendaya is nominated for an award! She’s up for Best Actress at the Actor Awards – they’re calling it the 32nd now, how exciting! – and it’s all going down on Netflix March 1st. Seriously, I’m SO ready to see her shine, especially knowing she represents Louis Vuitton while doing it! I’m already counting down the seconds!
On March 13th, Emma Stone and her husband, Dave McCary – a writer for Saturday Night Live – will celebrate their daughter Louise Jean turning five years old.
The couple, who are rarely apart, started their production company, Fruit Tree, in 2020. Their next projects include a Miss Piggy movie starring Jennifer Lawrence and a musical comedy with Jesse Eisenberg that doesn’t have a title yet.
Meryl Streep will once again play Miranda Priestly, the demanding editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, in the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. The new film, directed by David Frankel, will be released in the US and UK on May 1st.
The movie, from 20th Century Studios, stars Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, Kenneth Branagh, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Sydney Sweeney, and Lady Gaga.
Comedian Sarah Sherman from Saturday Night Live will lend her voice to the character of the Insect Queen in the upcoming animated film Hoppers. The movie, a body-swap comedy directed by Daniel Chong, also stars Jon Hamm, Dave Franco, Ego Nwodim, and Heidi Klum, and will be released in US and UK theaters on March 6th.
Meryl Streep will return as Loretta Durkin in the sixth season of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building. This season, set in London and consisting of 10 episodes, will also feature Martin Short as her character’s husband and on-screen directing partner.
Last November, the Emmy-winning actress joined the cast of “Useful Idiots,” a New York-based thriller about wealthy Russians, to play Diane Castle, a reporter who covers high-end real estate. She’ll be acting alongside Sigourney Weaver in the series directed by Joseph Cedar.
