Emma Myers lands next video game movie role after Minecraft success
Emma Myers has landed her next video game movie role following the success of A Minecraft Movie.
As a devoted fan, I can’t contain my excitement about the recent release of this new adaptation. It’s been just a week, but it’s already smashing records! Not only did it break the record for the biggest three-day opening for a video game adaptation in the US, but it also climbed its way to becoming the fourth highest-grossing film of 2025 thus far. Simply incredible!
Moving forward, it has been officially announced that Myers will be part of the cast for The Angry Birds Movie 3, a sequel to the first two films which were released in 2016 and 2019 respectively. These movies were inspired by the popular mobile game.

She will be part of the returning ensemble featuring Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Rachel Bloom, and Danny McBride. Additionally, newcomers to the cast include Keke Palmer from “Nope”, Lily James known for her role in “Pam & Tommy”, and Walker Scobell who appeared in “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”.
Joining them are Marcello Hernandez, Tim Robinson, and James Austin Johnson from Saturday Night Live, Sam Richardson from Ted Lasso, Anna Cathcart from XO, Kitty, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan from Never Have I Ever, Nikki Glaser from Trainwreck, and Psalm West, son of Kim Kardashian.
As an eager fan, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming sequel has finally announced its release date – January 29, 2027! John Rice will be steering the project as director, while Thurop Van Orman is crafting the screenplay for us to enjoy. Can’t wait to see it unfold!
The announcement was made following Myers’ discussion on which video game adaptation she might take up post-Minecraft, with Digital Spy querying if she would be interested in featuring in the forthcoming Legend of Zelda film, given her known affinity for the Nintendo series.
She mentioned, “Whomever includes me in their video game-inspired project,” she said. “The Last of Us” TV show is outstanding, and if they ever made a “Red Dead Redemption”, it would be awesome. “Portal” could work too. It’d make for an excellent animated series or similar production.
Feel free to cast me as a bit player in Red Dead – I’m easy to work with. And, hey, wouldn’t it be cool if I could voice the character of GLaDOS from Portal? It’d certainly add some excitement! Let’s just say it’s an idea out there.
A Minecraft Movie is out now in cinemas.
