Eminem to open the 2024 MTV VMAs for the first time in 14 years

At this year’s Grammy Awards taking place at New York’s UBS Arena on Thursday, the multiple Grammy-winning artist (age 51), who has been nominated for eight awards, will offer fans a first television performance of tracks from his latest 12th studio album, “The Death of Slim Shady.
At the ceremony held in 2010, Eminem kicked off the event by performing his popular track “Not Afraid.” Additionally, he teamed up with pop sensation Rihanna for a joint performance of their hit collaboration “Love the Way You Lie.
In 2022, during the awards event, it was his latest appearance where an NFT firm unveiled both his and Snoop Dogg’s virtual characters in a metaverse that was accessible to the MTV spectators.
Back in 2012, Eminem unexpectedly joined forces with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg for their joint performance of “Forgot About Dre” and “Still D.R.E.” on stage.
This year, he has been nominated in eight categories, such as Video of the Year, Best Hip-Hop Award, Song of Summer (presented by Hilton), and VMAs Most Iconic Performance for his 2000 medley of Real Slim Shady and The Way I Am.

Discussions are happening now to convince the renowned American artist to perform in 2025, as a large portion of the 210,000 attendees at last weekend’s event expressed disappointment with the main acts Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and SZA, labeling them ‘awful’.
According to a representative from the festival, although some may be trying to appear optimistic about this year’s event not being particularly successful, they are actively planning for an even more impressive lineup next year.
Even though Glastonbury has just wrapped up, organizers are eagerly hoping to secure a performance from Eminem. Their fingers are crossed that he’ll agree, as they believe he could help salvage the festival following low attendance at SZA’s shows.
Eminem has previously graced the stages of UK festivals such as Reading and Leeds back in 2017, yet he hasn’t had a chance to perform on Glastonbury’s primary Pyramid stage up until now.
