Emily Ratajkowski shared a suggestive photo to celebrate New York City’s new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, and some of her followers criticized the post as being inappropriate.
The 34-year-old model posted a video of herself dancing at a corner store, wearing a sheer black skirt. She captioned the Instagram post as a tribute to ‘Mamdani’s New York‘.
The actress from Gone Girl playfully danced in a grocery store aisle while wearing a backless crop top. She was showing her support for the city’s new mayor, who is also the first Muslim leader of the largest city in the United States, just a week after he took office.
The next image in her series showed a different side of Ratajkowski, as she respectfully covered her head with a white scarf and wore a long-sleeved white shirt while seemingly visiting the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
Another photo showed her taking a selfie. She was wearing a white T-shirt that was pulled up slightly, revealing some cleavage, but she’d cropped the picture to make it appropriate for social media.
She shared a Halloween photo of herself with her four-year-old son, Sylvester Apollo Bear, while they were trick-or-treating.

On January 1st, Mamdani officially became the mayor of New York City, taking his oath of office at a former subway station in Manhattan with historical significance.
Mamdani, a Democrat, made history as the first Muslim to lead New York City, swearing his oath of office with his hand on the Quran.
Mamdani’s campaign successfully highlighted the issue of affordability, becoming a key topic for politicians of all types. He pledged to significantly reduce living costs in one of the world’s priciest cities through ambitious new policies.
He proposed several initiatives, including affordable child care and public transportation, capping rents for roughly a million homes, and testing out city-owned grocery stores.
Mamdani made history as the city’s first Muslim and South Asian mayor, and the first to be born in Africa. At just 34 years old, he’s also the youngest mayor the city has seen in many years.
Born in Kampala, Uganda, to filmmaker Mira Nair and scholar Mahmood Mamdani, he moved with his family to New York City at age 7. He became a U.S. citizen in 2018.
Ratajkowski has been openly vocal about her political views and activism.
In 2016 she hit the campaign trail in support of Bernie Sanders.
In 2020, she joined many other public figures in speaking out about the police killing of George Floyd.
She joined a Black Lives Matter protest in Los Angeles with her husband, Sebastian, and other activists, carrying a sign calling for police funding to be reduced.
