Emily Ratajkowski admits she ‘enjoys being subversive with motherhood’ as she hits back at critics in racy ELLE cover shoot
Emily Ratajkowski defends her approach to motherhood, stating that she likes to challenge traditional norms, responding to her critics.
34-year-old model shared insights on her life during her thirties and being a mom, as she adorned the cover of Elle UK for their July/August issue.
In a single captivating frame, Emily exuded radiance in a coordinated beige ensemble consisting of a collar shirt and short shorts, beautifully accentuating her well-toned legs.
Later, she donned a roomy beige wrap cardigan and white trousers, creating a seductive ambiance within a restroom environment.
A different photo showed her relaxing on a bed in a soft baby pink top, later she changed into a cropped blouse with floral patterns and red leather shorts.
Emily drew attention in a lively mini dress, opting for no bra under an unbuttoned denim shirt, and completed the look with lavender flowery pants.

In the course of the interview, the model shared her views on style, given that she has become a mother to her child Sylvester, who came into the world in 2021.
As a lifestyle expert, I find great joy in expressing my individuality even within the role of motherhood through fashion. The societal norms surrounding the appearance of a mother can sometimes feel overwhelming, but I choose to challenge these expectations by embracing my unique style.
‘I understand my role as a mother and prioritize my son’s response towards me above all else. The opinions of others concerning my parenting style, based on how I choose to dress, simply don’t matter.’
Later on, Emily shared her thoughts on maturing during her thirties, a topic that she finds intriguing.
The beauty explained: ‘I’m fascinated with this decade of my life.
When my mother was 39, she gave birth to me. She often spoke about her thirties as a period of self-discovery and empowerment for women. I find myself experiencing the same feelings now.
At this point in her life, she emphasized the significance of community, stating: ‘I’m still drawn to males.’
In my personal circle, I don’t have any straight male friends, but only those who are romantically interested in me. When it comes to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, having such relationships ranks high on the pyramid, which is comforting.

‘[Men are] pleasure and fun, but not a part of my core.
‘The rest of my life is community with other women and queer people, and being a mom.’
Regarding the coming decade, Emily expressed: ‘While not everything is within our control, we can certainly steer ourselves towards something that brings us the life we desire. This thought invigorates me greatly because when I envision my years from 34 to 44, I feel an overwhelming sense of potential – what a fantastic period of time!’
‘I can be so much more intentional than I was in my twenties and there won’t be, like, accidents.’
Emily will be the lead actress in an upcoming Netflix series called “Too Much,” which was written by Lena Dunham.
The show, set to debut on Netflix on July 10th, features the model portraying a character called Wendy within it.
During the production of the latest series, the actress was granted full artistic control over it, a privilege she expressed as something she truly appreciated.
She added: ‘During my twenties, my career wasn’t very prosperous. Nowadays, I enjoy creating items and prefer not to be just an accessory in those creations.’
Working with Lena allowed me to mold her character extensively, which was incredibly enjoyable. It offered me more responsibilities beyond that of a typical hired actor.
Speaking about her on-set experiences, Lena mentioned that she often employs a “more nurturing” or “collaborative” approach to direction by emphasizing open communication and caring for everyone involved in the production.
Rather than asserting dominance, her strength comes from elegance and an innate talent for making people feel at ease.
ELLE’s July/August 2025 issue is on sale from June 19.
