Emily in Paris season 4 episode 6 recap: Last Christmas

As a seasoned gamer who has binge-watched countless series, I must say that Emily in Paris just took a dramatic turn for the worst with its latest episode! The Christmas-themed season 4 part 2 premiere was like a rollercoaster ride full of twists and turns that left me reeling.

For fans of “Emily in Paris,” their wish for Christmas arrives ahead of schedule, as the second half of season 4 debuts and brings on the series’ very first holiday episode filled with festive charm!

Last time around, I discovered that my chances of earning a Michelin star weren’t as promising as I had assumed. However, the real bombshell dropped when we found out Camille wasn’t carrying a child as we believed. This unexpected disclosure has left me pondering about when she’ll be honest and what the fallout could mean for her bond with me, and also for my relationship with Emily…

Let’s be mindful that potential spoilers lie ahead for those who haven’t seen the midseason premiere yet. Proceed cautiously!

Emily’s Christmas plans get derailed

With the start of a new season comes the approach of Christmas, and Emily is preparing to jet off to Chicago to celebrate the holidays with her loved ones. To our astonishment, it’s revealed that Gabriel won’t be traveling to Chicago alongside Emily, as he’ll instead be celebrating Christmas with Camille and her family. It appears that Camille hasn’t been truthful about something, which explains why Gabriel is spending the holiday season with her. Despite Emily expressing her desire for him to join her in Chicago, Gabriel continues to indicate his loyalty towards Camille, making it clear through his actions that he values her more than Emily.

Upon reaching the airport, Emily is taken aback to find that Sylvie has arranged an upgrade for her to business class. However, her joy is short-lived as her return flight to Chicago gets cancelled, denying her the opportunity to enjoy this premium travel experience.

When my flight got axed, Dad overheard Gabriel mentioning his plans to return to Paris for Christmas, just to hang out with me. His invite didn’t sit too well with me nor Mom during our festive family talk.

As soon as Emily steps into Camille’s family cabin, it’s evident that this Christmas won’t be filled with cheer and joy.

Do Emily and Gabriel break up in Emily in Paris?

As Christmas progresses, it’s evident that Emily and Gabriel are not doing well at all. It’s surprising to see Camille’s brother stepping up as the voice of reason, when he directly tells Emily that she’s more like a mistress in their relationship, given that it’s not Emily’s family that Gabriel is celebrating Christmas with.

Emily chooses to hit the slopes with Camille and Gabriel for some skiing fun. Not much time passes before Camille encourages Gabriel to race her instead of aiding Emily, and he quickly follows suit, leaving Emily on her own.

Following multiple tumbles, Emily encounters an amiable Italian gentleman named Marcello who assists her in navigating the snowy slopes safely. As they begin to exchange friendly banter, fate separates them before Emily notices Gabriel and Camille getting close. In a justified outburst, Emily calls out Gabriel for abandoning her at the mountain’s summit.

In a different phrasing, the situation unfolds as follows: Gabriel dismisses Emily’s justified anger by explaining he was only concerned about Camille. However, Emily counters that Camille is a mature skier who takes charge of her own life. As Camille joins the conversation, Emily declares it’s none of her business, but Gabriel swiftly intervenes, stating she’s carrying his child and this does matter to her. At this point, Camille’s brother’s words hit home for her: she is Gabriel’s mistress with no more status than that. As they continue their attempts to make things work, Emily tells Gabriel it’s not going to, suggesting it’s high time they both accept reality.

Instead of storming off and leaving them behind on the slopes, she abruptly ends their renewed relationship, doing so as swiftly as it had started anew during this season.

Sadly, Emily and Alfie do not get back together

Following her split with Gabriel, Emily gathers her belongings and departs, only to run into Alfie en route home. It feels as if destiny has brought them back together, hinting at a possible reunion. Regrettably, this does not come to pass.

When Emily encounters him, she confides in Alfie about her split with Gabriel. Being the kind-hearted gentleman he is, Alfie promptly inquires about Emily’s wellbeing.

Emily confides in him that there was an underlying cause for her and Gabriel not to gel, and she’s now openly acknowledged it. The discussion subsequently veers towards Alfie, where she expresses delight at seeing him and queries about his well-being. It appears that Alfie has found himself smitten with Paris… and the new lady in his life too. Indeed, Alfie is no longer available on the relationship market.

As Emily invites me to her holiday party at Mindy’s place, I share that I won’t be able to make it this year. My girlfriend and I have plans to attend Christmas mass together, and after that, we’re heading to London to spend Boxing Day with my family.

As Emily sends warm Christmas greetings to Alfie and expresses her joy for him, her mask slips, revealing sadness etched on her face once he departs, leaving her in tears and facing a melancholic holiday season.

Odds and ends from the episode

In another part of the same episode, Sylvie had planned to celebrate Christmas at home with Laurent and his daughter, Geneviève. However, things don’t go as planned when Sylvie accidentally burns the Christmas turkey. To make matters worse, more surprises challenge poor Sylvie. We discover that Geneviève has traveled to Paris for a job interview at Vogue Paris, and Sylvie tries to help her secure the position, but unfortunately, her efforts end up working against her instead.

If the Paris Vogue editor suggests that Sylvie’s affection for Geneviève is genuine and she should offer her a position, and given the recent turn of events, Sylvie invites Geneviève to join Agence Grateau instead.
