Emily in Paris season 4 episode 3 recap: Emily finally makes a choice between Gabriel and Alfie

As a seasoned gamer of life and lover of Emily in Paris, I must admit that this third episode of season 4 has me hooked! The plot twists are as delicious as a croissant from a Parisian bakery, and I can’t help but feel like I’m navigating the winding streets of the City of Light myself.

In the opening of season 4’s third episode of Emily in Paris, Emily embarks on a run through the city, noticing more handsome men around Paris than she had seen in some time since her recent singleness. However, it appears that destiny may have its own agenda as Gabriel and Alfie find themselves back in Emily’s life in unanticipated manners.

Warning: Emily in Paris season 4 episode 3 spoilers ahead!

Initially, Emily unintentionally shared her feelings of annoyance towards Gabriel hosting his ex and her girlfriend, along with her newfound realization about the abundance of attractive men in Paris since she’s single, with Gabriel under a case of mistaken identity. In reality, Gabriel had asked Mindy if he could use their shower before Emily returned from her run, and Gabriel was actually taking that shower when Emily expressed her feelings, assuming it was Mindy preparing herself.

In a later business gathering with Antoine, discussing the debut of his latest fragrance, Heartbreak, Emily encounters Alfie. During her presentation of a masquerade concept, Alfie interrupts to inquire about the relationship between heartbreak and this masked event. It is then that Emily explains that a masquerade offers individuals the chance to assume different identities, including those who are not heartbroken.

After the meeting, Camille encounters Alfie and expresses regret for her speech at their wedding that caused them to break up with Emily. Alfie acknowledges they still harbor feelings for each other, stating he won’t oppose their relationship. This is when Camille reveals that Emily and Gabriel have been given some space but haven’t actually gotten back together yet, subtly suggesting that Alfie might not need to worry about them reuniting after all.

Just before Emily sets off for the masquerade, she runs into Gabriel who inquires about the event’s theme. Emily shares with him that a mask allows one to conceal themselves and assume an identity without complications. Gabriel confesses his feelings remain unchanged, to which Emily responds that this arrangement can work only if they pretend to be separate individuals as she departs.

As Emily heads toward the ball, she collides with a person dressed identically to Antoine’s assistant, raising the possibility of complications in the ensuing scene. The question now becomes: what kind of difficulties will this encounter bring about?

Alfie arrives and expresses regret for his words towards Emily regarding the ball during their encounter earlier. He then requests a dance from her, taking this moment to inform her that he’s learned she isn’t with Gabriel anymore. He apologizes again for his behavior, admitting his feelings about Gabriel as an obstacle and confessing how upset he was by everything while they dance together.

Before Sylvie finishes processing Alfie’s remarks, she sends Emily away to help Antoine and deal with tasks. It just so happens that Emily encounters Gabriel during this time. Interestingly, Gabriel has been considering Emily’s earlier suggestion of being unique individuals, so he introduces himself as David. They exchange a moment of playfulness about this before Emily is called upon to confront something else. It turns out she meets Mindy in the process, and Emily fills her in on Alfie and Gabriel showing up, revealing their feelings towards each other.

Mindy informs Emily that it’s time to decide something, and it appears she makes a choice by going in search of the two individuals. However, Emily ends up dancing with Gabriel instead of the intended person. Meanwhile, Alfie accidentally kisses Antoine’s assistant, thinking she was Emily, when in reality, Emily is off with Gabriel.

It seems Emily has finally made her choice and she’s chosen Gabriel, at least for now.

Sylvie takes a stand

In the opening of this episode, I found myself playing the role of a writer crafting a tale about Nicolas’ father. It seemed like I was trying to reach out to Sylvie, but she kept dodging my calls, making it evident that she was grappling with her decisions and the situation only grew more intricate as she struggled to come to terms with Louis financing Laurent’s new club.

In her conversation with Laurent, Sylvie openly expresses her lack of trust towards Louis. She implies that his choice to invest in the club is essentially a way to keep her quiet about certain matters. This is also when she discloses to Laurent that she was approached regarding a story, hinting that there might not be one without her involvement.

Following some contemplation, Sylvie chooses to voice her convictions and engages in a conversation with the reporter, ultimately resulting in an exposé that uncovers Louis’ misconduct. Subsequently, she embarks on a series of interactions. Firstly, she expresses gratitude to Mindy for disclosing the secret closet at JVMA, emphasizing the importance of holding men responsible for their actions. Then, she subtly suggests to Julien that the door is open for his return, yet questions if JVMA might not be the ideal environment for him in light of recent events. She also receives a supportive message from Antoine. Lastly, she reaches out to Laurent, asking for his forgiveness regarding the article and its potential impact on his club.

Odds and Ends

When Sylvie speaks up, there’s some turmoil in Paradise for Mindy because Nicolas is extremely angry over the article. He angrily denies it all, which leads to Mindy revealing things she’s learned about Nicolas’ father.

She assures Nicolas that while she knows her dad loves her, that hasn’t stopped him from breaking her heart many times over the years. It’s clear Nicolas is struggling with things and he makes it clear he wants nothing more than for Mindy to be by his side as he sorts through things which she’s happy to do so long as he’s on the right side.

In another part of the show, Marianne accidentally hears Gabriel expressing gratitude to Luc for facilitating their restaurant visit aimed at securing a Michelin Star, mentioning that such recognition could potentially harm his chances. Later on, they reconcile when Luc proposes moving in together, and Marianne advises Gabriel on hiring a renowned pastry chef to aid him in his quest for the Michelin Star.
