Emily in Paris cast left ‘aghast’ and ‘walking on eggshells’ as off-camera drama becomes overwhelming… and whispers swirl about a CURSE

From enjoying delicious French pastries in charming bakeries to celebrating with Champagne in the Loire Valley and zipping around Rome on scooters, life as Emily in Paris appears to be a carefree and joyful adventure.

However, a series of difficult events – including multiple breakups, a frightening health issue, a surprising arrest, and even a death – has led some people involved with the Netflix show to believe it might be cursed.

The Daily Mail has learned that some employees are constantly worried and anxious, feeling like they have to be extremely careful because they expect something negative to occur.

After all, this year has been particularly turbulent.

Filming for the recently released fifth season was temporarily halted in August when a member of the crew, assistant director Diego Borella, unexpectedly collapsed and died while working in Venice, Italy. He was 47 years old, and medical personnel were unable to revive him. The incident was witnessed by a shocked crew.

A spokesperson for Paramount TV Studios confirmed with great sadness that a member of the Emily in Paris team had unexpectedly passed away, according to a statement released at the time.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the person who has passed, and we are thinking of them during this sad time.

Filming resumed two days later.

Ugh, it wasn’t enough that Nicolas and Mindy’s relationship on the show was so complicated! Now I just found out Paul Forman and Ashley Park – the actual Paul and Ashley, the ones who are Nicolas and Mindy – broke up in real life after dating for two years! Seriously, my heart is broken all over again. It’s like the drama just keeps following me!

Around the same time, Lucas Bravo, who also starred in the show, experienced a brief romance with Shailene Woodley that didn’t last.

The issues continued when, on November 16th – just a month before the new season aired – Jeremy O’Harris, the actor who plays Grégory Duprée, was arrested in Japan. He was suspected of trying to bring illegal drugs into the country, but was released after three weeks without being charged.

According to a source at the Daily Mail, the show’s cast has been dealing with a string of bad luck that has shocked everyone involved.

It seems like a pattern of misfortune keeps happening to the cast of ‘Emily in Paris’. There’s a constant sense of uncertainty and worry, as no one can predict when the next problem will arise, creating a tense atmosphere.

The show’s final season received overwhelmingly negative reviews, with critics finding it lacked a coherent storyline and ultimately offered very little substance.

I’ve been a huge fan of Bravo’s Gabriel, but I was really surprised to hear him express how unhappy he is with the direction his character has taken. He actually said he feels like he’s ‘slowly turned into guacamole’ – it’s a funny way to put it, but you can tell he’s genuinely frustrated with how things are going for his character!

He told IndieWire last October that it stopped being enjoyable for him to play or even watch a character he’d grown to love, especially as that character deteriorated. He felt he’d become disconnected from the role.

He explained that he really tried to offer helpful ideas, but nothing changed. He added that this makes him wonder if he wants to return for a fifth season, since his current contract only covers the first four.

Camille Razat’s decision to leave the show likely stemmed from its disappointing performance, as she wanted to focus on new and promising ventures, like her production company, Tazar, which she had recently started.

Camille, played by Razat, was a key character in the show, which centers around Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), a social media enthusiast from the American Midwest who moves to Paris for a new marketing position.

Emily meets Gabriel in Paris while recovering from a breakup. Unfortunately, he’s already seeing someone named Camille, which starts a long and agonizing period of uncertainty about whether they’ll ever be together.

Fortunately, both Razat and Collins have found happiness in their personal lives. Razat, age 31, has been in a relationship with her fiancé, French photographer Etienne Baret, since 2017. Collins married Charles McDowell in 2021, and they recently welcomed their first child, born through surrogacy.

However, it hasn’t been as smooth sailing for some of their fellow cast members. Sources say that Forman and Park, who faced a serious health scare with life-threatening septic shock earlier this year, ended their relationship around late summer or early fall, three years after first connecting on the show. Neither of them has confirmed the split publicly.

In September, Park attended Selena Gomez’s wedding and was seen enjoying the celebration with other single guests. According to a source, the split didn’t create any problems on set, and filming continued smoothly.

Around six months after they first got together, Glen Powell, 37, and Rachel Woodley, 34, split up. While sources told People magazine the breakup was amicable, with no arguments or resentment – simply differing life goals – both quickly removed all photos of each other from their Instagram pages.

Working on ‘Emily in Paris’ is a big commitment that can be tough on relationships,” a source revealed. “The cast and crew often need to dedicate several months to filming on location, which means a lot of travel for anyone not already living in France or Italy.

Season five of the show premiered on December 18th and was filmed in Paris and Rome between May and late August. This season will focus on Emily starting a new chapter of her life – and a new romance with an attractive Italian man named Marcello – in the beautiful city of Rome.

Soren Bregendal, who played Erik on the show – Sylvie’s love interest in seasons two and three – recently told the Daily Mail that filming days are often long and demanding, typically lasting twelve hours and leaving him with little free time.

It’s a really busy time,” he explained. “When people take time off, we all just want to unwind and treat ourselves, maybe with a massage or something similar.

Despite the demanding schedule and a series of challenges, the cast has formed a strong and positive connection. According to producer Maria Bregendal, the people involved were wonderful and made the work process easy. She emphasized that even with a large-scale production, a remarkable level of kindness on set created a comfortable atmosphere for everyone.

According to a source close to the show, the cast remains incredibly close and supportive of each other, almost like a family. Even with personal challenges and difficulties, they’ve pulled together to consistently deliver entertaining seasons that viewers love. Their priority is to create feel-good television for audiences worldwide.
