The fifth season of Emily in Paris has received negative reviews, with many calling it the worst season so far and describing it as “terrible.”
Okay, so the new season just dropped and it’s awesome! Lily Collins is back as Emily, but this time she’s ditched Paris and moved to Rome. She’s trying to expand the Agence Grateau office over there, and honestly, it’s a really fun watch so far.
Emily is struggling to balance her life between two cities and some career challenges. On top of that, she’s also dealing with problems in her relationship with Marcello and with her close friends.

The newest release is now available on Netflix, but it hasn’t been well-received by critics. Some have even suggested viewers need to suspend disbelief to find it enjoyable.
In a review for The Independent, the show was described as feeling mentally regressive. While Minnie Driver’s addition to the cast brought some much-needed energy and self-awareness, the reviewer felt it wasn’t enough to redeem the overall poor quality of the show.

In a review for Slant Magazine, Minnie Driver’s new role on Emily in Paris was highlighted. The reviewer noted that Driver plays a quirky, wealthy social media personality and seems to be the only cast member aware of the show’s overall quality.
Honestly, there are moments when the characters feel almost real, and it’s kinda amazing. But it’s so clear the whole show is just trying to squeeze money out of you – it’s built right into the story and why everyone does what they do. That completely ruins any chance of it being a relaxing or even fun, cheesy watch. Seriously, don’t fall for it.
Okay, so I’m a big fan of Emily in Paris, but honestly, season 5 just didn’t hit the mark for me. TechRadar put it perfectly – even they, being pretty critical, said it’s the weakest season so far. Moving the story to a new location didn’t really work, and I found myself totally disconnected from the romance, because it felt like none of it really mattered this time around.

According to The Guardian, Emily in Paris (and now Emily in Rome) is still incredibly fun and perfect for some lighthearted holiday viewing – just switch off your brain and enjoy! Think of it as a festive treat to enjoy with your mince pies.
Series creator Darren Star told Deadline that the upcoming season is going to be “really terrific.”
He said he’s very excited about the upcoming season. They spent the first four weeks filming in Rome, which was a great experience, and now they’re back in Paris – Emily is definitely back in Paris, too.
Emily in Paris seasons 1-5 are streaming on Netflix.
