Emily in Hampstead? Lily Collins waves farewell to LA as she lines up return to London so her daughter can go to a UK school

In the hit Netflix show Emily in Paris, Lily Collins’ character is captivated by the romantic city.

But in real life, it seems, the actress’s heart lies in London. 

Thirty-six-year-old Lily is relocating from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. with her husband, film director Charlie McDowell, and their one-year-old daughter, Tove.

According to reports, she’s been considering moving back to Britain after enjoying her time in London while performing in the play Barcelona in late 2024.

Lily Collins, the daughter of musician Phil Collins, is hoping to settle down and is looking at schools for her daughter, Tove, who was born through surrogacy in January of last year.

According to a source, Lily had a wonderful childhood in the English countryside and hopes to provide her daughter with a similar experience.

She expected to love the countryside, but she actually fell in love with London. That’s where most of her friends and family live, and she enjoys being near them.

‘She is particularly taken with the north, like Hampstead and Queen’s Park.’

Lily is one of many famous celebrities who have moved to the UK while Donald Trump was president.

Ryan Gosling, known for his role in Barbie, resides in Hampstead, and Ellen DeGeneres, the former talk show host, has relocated to the Cotswolds.

Lily splits her time between Copenhagen, where she owns a home worth £1 million with her partner, McDowell, 42, and Los Angeles, where her mother, Jill Tavelman, who runs an antique shop, lives.

Last year, she and McDowell sold their house in Pasadena, Los Angeles, for £4.5 million. Meryl Streep lived nearby as a neighbor.

Lily spent her early childhood in a large, eight-bedroom home in Guildford. Her parents divorced when she was seven years old, in 1996.

She split her time between West Sussex, where her father resided, and Los Angeles. Eventually, she moved to the US permanently to focus on her career.

She described feeling at home during her visit to London last January. Her favorite thing, she explained, was sitting on the top deck of a double-decker bus at the front.

‘I don’t have a plan on where I want to go, I just sit and see all the sights and people.’

Emily in Paris centers around Emily Cooper, an American marketing professional, and her experiences working in Paris. The show’s fourth season takes her to Rome.

Last year, when asked about a possible show following Emily to London, Lily mentioned it ‘would be fun’. Now that Lily is moving to London herself, the idea of that spin-off seems more likely.
