Emily Hampshire Joins MCU’s Vision Series as E.D.I.T.H.

The popular TV show “Vision” is shaping up, as it has brought on board a beloved actor from “Schitt’s Creek.” This isn’t just any role though; it involves stepping into a character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) that was introduced in “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” and hasn’t been seen since 2019. Known as “Vision,” the series, under the temporary title “Vision Quest,” is aiming for a premiere on Disney+ in 2026, ahead of the new release date for “Avengers: Doomsday.” Given that the series seeks to revive and perhaps resolve lingering plotlines from the MCU’s past, it seems fitting.

According to Deadline, Emily Hampshire, recognized for her role as Stevie on the highly praised Schitt’s Creek, has been cast as E.D.I.T.H., a character from the upcoming Vision series. In the Spider-Man: Far From Home movie, E.D.I.T.H. (Even Dead, I’m The Hero) was an artificial intelligence security system created by Tony Stark and given to Peter Parker. This AI controlled a group of military drones that Quentin Beck / Mysterio exploited before being defeated by Spider-Man. Previously, Dawn Mitchell King provided the voice for E.D.I.T.H. in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

E.D.I.T.H.’s Role in ‘Vision’ and the Future of the MCU

In the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series titled “Vision,” it seems that multiple artificially intelligent characters created by Tony Stark will come together. Paul Bettany portrays Vision, who was originally the A.I. operating system J.A.R.V.I.S. in voice-over form for Tony Stark. James Spader reprises his role as Ultron, one of Stark’s creations and the “father” of Vision. T’Nia Miller has been confirmed to play Jocasta, an operating system hinted at in “Age of Ultron” before F.R.I.D.A.Y. was uploaded by Stark. There are also rumors that Kerry Condon, who previously voiced F.R.I.D.A.Y., will join the cast of “Vision.” It remains unknown if Jennifer Connelly will reprise her role as Peter Parker’s first A.I., Karen, from “Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The character E.D.I.T.H., featured prominently in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has an intriguing history as it was taken by Damage Control together with the drone system it managed during Spider-Man: No Way Home. These drones were subsequently seen under Damage Control’s control in Ms. Marvel , but it is uncertain if they still possess E.D.I.T.H.’s artificial intelligence. With the casting of Timothy Olyphant as the character, it hints that the AI may manifest physically. However, it remains to be seen if this physical form will resemble tangible characters like Vision and Ultron, or if Olyphant’s portrayal will represent E.D.I.T.H. in a digital space.

Hampshire is a terrific fit for the “Vision” series and the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Her portrayal of Stevie on “Schitt’s Creek” brought her extensive popularity and praise from critics. Given recent reports suggesting that Disney and its divisions like Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm are reducing streaming series productions, “Vision” could mark the end of a particular phase that was aptly initiated by “WandaVision” in 2021. Even though MCU movie characters may no longer feature in Disney+ shows, figures such as Hampshire’s E.D.I.T.H. could become cornerstones for the television branch of the franchise instead.
