Emily Blunt breaks her silence on The Devil Wears Prada sequel rumours amid claims she's being eyed to return alongside Meryl Streep

As a long-time fanatic of The Devil Wears Prada, I am absolutely thrilled to hear that a sequel is finally in the works! Emily Blunt’s cryptic responses during her recent interview have only fueled my anticipation even more. It’s like the return of a beloved friend, and I can’t help but wonder what Emily Charlton has been up to all these years.

It’s been revealed that Emily Blunt has spoken up about rumors that a much-anticipated follow-up to The Devil Wears Prada is now being developed.

For several weeks, there have been whispers that the 41-year-old actress might take on her character Emily Charlton again, and it seems Meryl Streep may return as Miranda Priestley, the formidable Editor-in-Chief at Runway.

At the American Institute for Stuttering’s 18th Annual Gala on a Monday evening, Emily was questioned regarding the recent announcement of a sequel getting approved.

Quipping: ‘What sequel?’ she added: ‘Oh my god I can’t tell you anything!’

In reference to her character’s impeccable look in the movie, she remarked: ‘I think I’ll go for another round of striking makeup today.’

Afterward, she playfully commented on resuming her role, alluding to Emily’s struggle with stomach flu that coincidentally led to weight loss, enabling her to participate in Paris Fashion Week.

‘I’ve gotta get a stomach flu and some eye makeup in there. I’m hoping for that!’ the star added.

According to Variety, it’s been announced that Disney has hired screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna for a new adaptation of the 2006 movie, which itself was based on the 2003 novel “The Devil Wears Prada” by Lauren Weisberger.

Although it’s not certain if the original actors will reprise their roles just yet, suggestions point towards possible returns for Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestley and Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton, based on the leaked plot summary.

News about a upcoming sequel has surfaced mere days following the initial sneak peek performance of a musical rendition on London’s West End. This production stars Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestley, with fresh tunes from Elton John added to the mix.

In contemporary times, the narrative of this sequel focuses on Priestley and her professional journey, as the traditional print magazine industry is experiencing a significant downturn.

She squares off with Charlton, who is said to be a high-powered executive for a luxury group, as Priestley is chasing that company’s ad dollars.

It remains unclear whether Anne Hathaway will reprise her role as Andrea ‘Andy’ Sachs, or if the other notable cast members like Stanley Tucci, Simon Baker, Adrian Grenier, Gisele Bündchen, and Tracie Thoms will return for future installments of the project.

The initial movie was influenced by the book of the identical title written by Weisberger, which draws somewhat on her experience working under Anna Wintour as editor-in-chief at Vogue.

The narrative centers around Andy, a graduate from Northwestern University, who unexpectedly secures a position as a junior executive assistant to Miranda Priestley, the powerful editor-in-chief at Runway Magazine.

She attempts to leverage her experience to create paths for superior journalism roles, yet struggles to find her place, despite consistently showing she’s capable and ready for it.

David Frankel’s movie turned out to be an unexpected box office sensation, generating a whopping $124.7 million domestically and $326.7 million globally on a relatively small budget of $35 million.

Streep won a Golden Globe for her performance and scored an Oscar nomination as well.

Wendy Finerman, the original producer, is set to come back and produce again, but as of now, no director has been selected for the project.

For quite some time now, there have been discussions about a follow-up story, with Weisberger publishing the sequel novel “Revenge Wears Prada” in 2013.

To my utter dismay, I’ve come to realize that the iconic cast members from the original masterpiece have expressed their reluctance to take part in a potential sequel to the beloved adaptation.

In a recent interview for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, both Blunt and Hathaway sat down together to chat. During this conversation, Blunt shared the joy they experienced while working together.

She expressed that we all experienced an incredibly fun and memorable time making that film. I wasn’t expecting it to turn out as amazingly as it did. People still mention it to me regularly. That movie is going to have a significant impact on my life.
