Emily Atack is left shocked as she reveals she was snubbed from plans of an Inbetweeners reunion
As a devoted fan of “The Inbetweeners,” I must say it’s fascinating to witness the behind-the-scenes dynamics of this beloved show. It seems like each cast member has a unique perspective on their time there, and their post-show lives have taken different paths.
Emily Atack expressed surprise when she disclosed that there were no known plans for an Inbetweeners reunion, contradicting persistent whispers about one.
As a die-hard fan, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment when Joe Thomas disclosed in August that discussions for a reboot were underway, yet it seemed like my beloved Rivals actress, aged 34, had been overlooked for any possible reunion.
On Capital Breakfast on Tuesday, Emily fielded queries from listeners who phoned in with their questions during a chat with Will Manning.
The host inquired: “Regarding the speculations about The Inbetweeners making a film, they stated that you wouldn’t participate. But if you were to be part of it, what would you hope for the outcome?
Sounding shocked Emily replied: ‘Oh I haven’t heard about this, I don’t know.’
Later on, she mentioned: ‘If you consider it now, we’re all much older. It was amusing when we shot the series because I was only 17 and had recently graduated from school, while the guys were probably in their late twenties or early thirties.’
The star playfully commented, “Every morning they’d groom their chests in the makeup vehicles, and trim their beards almost to the edge.
Imitating shaving she added: ‘With the razors, every morning, lots of shaving rashes on that job.’
Emily was taken aback following Simon Bird’s dismissal of any speculations about a potential reunion.
‘I can tell you emphatically that there are no prospects of a reunion.’ he told TopMob last month.
Simon noted: “While we’d love to, the decision isn’t in our hands. It belongs to Iain and Damon, the writers, and I understand they’ve been quite occupied lately.
‘It’s not more likely to happen now than it was ten years ago I’m afraid.
In my opinion, the show seemed to encapsulate a specific era, and I stirred up quite a bit of conversation on social media during a past interview when I expressed doubts about its production today. However, I’m not entirely certain if that’s still the case.
‘So no there have been no discussion about a new show or film.’
However, while Simon insisted there would be no reunion and claimed he couldn’t remember his time on the show, James Buckley has revealed he will always be proud of the series.
In a recent statement, the 37-year-old actor deemed the popular series from the 2000s (often referred to as the noughties) as one of his finest works. Remarkably, he shared that it continues to elicit laughter from him, even 16 years after its initial airing in 2008.
Following Simon, known for portraying Will McKenzie and achieving stardom, remarked that although people often throw lines from the show at him on the streets, he can no longer recall his lines and has since moved past that phase.
Instead, James, famed for portraying Jay Cartwright, shared with TopMob that he relishes interacting with fans and finds no reason for anyone to hesitate when coming up to talk to him.
He mentioned that it’s quite unusual, but somehow The Inbetweeners becomes more popular and he gets recognized even more often when he’s out in public.
‘I love the Inbetweeners I’m ever so proud of it.’
2019 saw the stars of the show hosting a chat-show reunion called “The Inbetweeners: Fwends Reunited”.
Emily was conspicuously missing from the 10th anniversary special, while it’s reported that James contributed to the event.
At that point, reports claimed that James made it clear to the producers, “It’s between her and I,” due to a previous romantic involvement they shared when they were both unattached.
The Sun hinted that James might have been concerned that his wife, Claire, would discover their short-lived romance which transpired between 2008 and 2010 while they were both on the show.
It seems Emily found out a day prior to her scheduled appearance on the reunion that she wouldn’t be needed instead.
According to a source, 24 hours before Emily was expected on set, producers contacted her. They were both ashamed and contrite, having to inform her that it was James who requested her removal from the show.
In their younger days, when they were both unattached, this duo shared a few secret kisses. However, during the reunion, James wished to keep this past incident private, not wanting it to cause trouble or affect his relationship with Claire.
The insider added that the past kisses she shared with James meant nothing and she was shocked and upset to learn that she wasn’t needed on the show.
It seems that James also felt uncomfortable with Emily recently participating in “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!” and believed it wasn’t consistent with the image or identity of The Inbetweeners.
Emily seemed disheartened after learning about James’ remarks, as he implied her appearance on the reality show was lacking in class or taste.
James’ representatives refused to comment at the time.
