Emilia Perez BAFTA Snub Shocks as Karla Gascón Scandal Overshadows 11 Nominations
Emilia Perez was only awarded two gongs at the prestigious BAFTAs ceremony on Sunday night.
Concerns about the Mexican film, Emilia Perez, intensify due to the Karla Sofia Gascón controversy, as the movie won just two out of eleven award nominations it received.
Although the film featured Selena Gomez among its main actors, it was only Zoe Saldana who won the Best Supporting Actress award. Interestingly, the movie itself received the honor of Best Film Not in the English Language.
In recent weeks, Emilia Perez has garnered mixed reviews following disgraced Spanish actress Karla.
52-year-old Karla was not included in the BAFTA guest list, as old social media posts she made containing offensive content about race, sexuality, and body shaming were brought to light, causing a stir and accusations of racism, homophobia, and body shaming.
The movie chronicles the story of its protagonist, Karla Sofia Gascon, who is also the titular character, and happens to be a drug lord. She recruits a lawyer, portrayed by Zoe Saldana, to assist in orchestrating her own death and subsequently transforming into Emilia Perez, a new identity.

Overwhelmed with emotion, I couldn’t suppress my flood of tears nor my fervent exclamations as I graciously received the prestigious Best Supporting Actress award for Emilia Perez at the illustrious Royal Festival Hall.
46-year-old actress was swiftly taken out of the camera frame after uttering profanities, exclaiming “damn, damn, damn” in haste as the countdown pressured her to wrap up her speech.
Overwhelmed with emotion, I couldn’t help but shed tears of joy as I graciously accepted this prestigious award. It’s more than validation; it’s a profound honor for me to have been recognized after being told by dialect coaches that my British accent might not cut it. But here I stand, proving them wrong!
Listing off her thank yous, Zoe said: ‘Oh my god I’m getting a countdown. F*** f*** f***!’
She was all smiles as she accepted the award from Colman Domingo and Adam Pearson.
During the evening, Zoe was absolutely stunning, turning heads as she walked the glittering red carpet in a striking black lace dress.
In my latest fashion flair, I proudly displayed my toned physique in a captivating semi-transparent outfit that showcased a stunning off-shoulder neckline and an impressive mesh collar, adding an extra dash of elegance to my style statement.
With sleek, wavy hairstyle on her long locks, Zoe gracefully stood tall wearing high-heeled shoes, and adorned herself with a stunning silver necklace that sparkled.

On the grand night of British cinema, David Tennant graced the stage as the host, while a group of guest presenters were ready to distribute awards throughout the eventful evening.
As I, a lifestyle connoisseur, reflect on the recent events, it’s clear that Jesse Eisenberg, aged 41, graciously accepted the Best Supporting Actor accolade bestowed upon him by his fellow cast member Kieran Culkin, for his exceptional performance in the movie “A Real Pain.
Grabbing Kieran’s trophy, as he acknowledged that it was the fifth time someone else had accepted an award for him during this season, Jesse quipped playfully: “It seems my assumption has been validated… our lives share some similarities, but his is approximately 27% more impressive than mine.
Jesse, not only did they direct and play the lead role in A Real Pain, but they also won the award for Best Original Screenplay and delivered a heartfelt speech from the stage.
Winning the movie’s second place, he confessed: ‘Since I hadn’t anticipated winning, I didn’t write a speech. I’d like to dedicate this award to my wife, who stayed home as she too felt I wouldn’t win.’
Orlando Bloom and Vanesa Kirby graced the stage to present Jesse’s BAFTA award at the ceremony.
In the Conclave, which received an astounding 10 nominations, they were awarded two prizes; one for Best Adapted Screenplay and another for Best Editing.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to share that I recently witnessed the triumph of the $6 million independent film, Anora, at the prestigious Critics Choice Awards. This underdog production, in a surprising turn of events, outshone the blockbuster movies and claimed the Best Casting award last week.

Dune: Part Two picked up two awards, one for Best Sound and another for Best Visual Effects.
Additionally, Wallace and Gromit managed to secure two BAFTA awards that night, outperforming Flow, Inside Out 2’s sequel, and The Wild Robot.
Speechless upon another award win, the maker of the animated movie, Nick Park, remarked: “I hadn’t even penned a second speech.
Kicking off the evening with a bang, the creators of Wallace & Gromit were honored with the Best Children’s and Family Film award.
Speaking humbly while accepting this honor, I can’t help but express my gratitude for being immersed in the extraordinary talent pool at Aardman Studios daily. It’s truly a dream come true to work alongside these brilliant creators!
The Conclave won its very first BAFTA Award in the category of Best Adapted Screenplay, outshining A Complete Unknown, Emilia Perez, The Nickel Boys, and Sing Sing.

Director and screenwriter Rich Peppiatt, winner of the Outstanding Debut award, offered a heartfelt tribute to all those bravely battling their struggles.
In an unsurprising turn of events, Jon M. Chu’s production Wicked claimed its initial BAFTA award for Best Production Design during the course of the evening.
