In Moscow, 1977, two intelligence officers, known internally as “PONIES” – or “persons of no interest” – work undercover as secretaries at the American Embassy.
Everything changes when both women’s husbands die unexpectedly in the USSR, leading them to become CIA agents. Bea Clarke is highly educated and fluent in Russian, having grown up as the child of Soviet immigrants. Her partner, Twila Richardson, is a bold and outspoken woman from a small town.

Working as a team, they investigate a large-scale conspiracy from the Cold War era and finally discover the truth behind their husbands’ deaths.
The first trailer for the upcoming series features Clarke and Richardson as their characters, starting with a scene of them walking and chatting about their husbands’ jobs as spies.
I was shocked to hear that the plane went down with those two guys on it. It’s just awful, and the women they left behind are completely heartbroken, desperately trying to figure out what happened.
Desperate to achieve their goals, they agree to work as intelligence operatives for the government. Twila explains their advantage: “As women, people tend to overlook us, seeing us only as potential sexual partners or wives. Because of this, no one would ever suspect us of being involved in something secretive or dangerous.”

The scene then cuts to a fast-paced series of events: the women are shown burning down a bar, enjoying lavish parties, and infiltrating enemy circles – but their actions come with a hidden price.
The series will also star Nicholas Podany, known from Saturday Night, Petro Ninovskyi of Silence, and Vic Michaelis, who appeared in Very Important People.
The Village‘s Mike Daniels acts as an executive producer alongside Black Mirror‘s Jessica Rhoades.
Ponies begins streaming on Peacock on January 15
