Mariah Carey enjoyed a taste of a classic Australian treat on Friday while performing in Australia for the first time in over a decade.
The 56-year-old pop star performed at the Fridayz Live RnB festival in Brisbane, sharing the stage with artists like Pitbull and Wiz Khalifa.
While filming paused, Mariah sat down and opened a jar of Vegemite, the popular Australian food spread, and some of her fans quickly guessed what she was planning to do.
I watched, fascinated, as the singer took a tiny teaspoon and plunged it into this incredibly dark brew. Honestly, the amount they scooped out looked so strong, even a lifelong Vegemite fan like me would have probably recoiled!
The crowd clearly thought it was excessive, with many yelling ‘That’s too much!’ as the Grammy-winning artist got ready to take a bite.
She didn’t heed the warnings, however, and slipped a sizeable portion gingerly into her mouth.

She quickly wished she hadn’t said it. Mariah looked out at the audience, shaking her head slightly, and delivered a flat, unenthusiastic ‘No’.
She then proceeded to walk to the back of the stage to discard the offending item.
Mariah seems to enjoy taking risks, as she had tried this stage stunt before.
During her 2013 Triumphant tour, the singer famously tried Vegemite on stage while performing in Sydney.
The legendary chanteuse was performing at Allphones Arena (now Qudos Bank Arena).
She playfully addressed the Australian audience, saying she’d try another bite of Vegemite. She admitted she couldn’t quite master the Australian accent, but gave it a shot anyway.
She was clearly unimpressed as she demanded a beverage to help wash down the yeasty spread.
She jokingly demanded champagne within 1.5 seconds, threatening to fire everyone if her request wasn’t met, though she immediately regretted sounding so harsh.

‘It just shows how much I love you guys, okay,’ she said, rounding out the bit.
The repetition was not lost on fans, with some taking to social media to point out the re-run.
‘I’ve already seen it before,’ one commented on X, sharing a clip from Mariah’s 2013 performance.
Another chimed in, claiming Mariah also attempted the taste test way back in 1998.
‘This isn’t new though, she tried it before on the Butterfly tour,’ the fan wrote.
