As a long-time Star Wars enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of the galaxy far, far away through various mediums, I can honestly say that the casting of Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger in the Ahsoka series was a stroke of genius.
For quite some time now, Ezra Bridger has been a beloved Star Wars character, especially among fans of the animated show “Star Wars Rebels.” More recently, the actor portraying him, Eman Esfandi, shared his account of how he stepped into the role of Ezra for the live-action “Ahsoka” series.
In his latest interview on Katee Sackhoff’s podcast “The Sackhoff Show”, Esfandi admitted that initially, he wasn’t familiar with the character Ezra; it was only when he came across a picture showing what the older version of the character might appear like online, that he recognized him.
Celebrities too can sometimes get lost while aimlessly browsing social media, just like an actor who chanced upon Ezra, also known as “Space Aladdin” online.
He mentioned that while he was online, a topic emerged about someone portraying Space Aladdin. Then there’s an image of him, drawn by Pandora Young, which is an older rendition she created showing what Ezra might look like after returning from being stranded in Peridea. Remarkably, it resembled me.
Esfandi became captivated to such an extent that he began watching the series called Rebels, and found himself drawn so strongly to the character Ezra that he even shared a comparison photo of them both with his agents, expressing his intention to try out for the role if ever casting were to open for Ezra Bridger.
Indeed, at first, no one anticipated the demand for a live-action portrayal of Ezra. However, Ahsoka made her appearance, and surprisingly, they found an actor who bore a striking resemblance to what an older Ezra might look like in the series. And thus, it was settled.
Six months down the line, I received an unidentified audition call while I was working on another movie project, he explained further. In just a few short days, I was given the opportunity to take on the role.
