Elton John’s husband David Furnish issues an update on the singer’s health and says he’s ‘happy being at home as a family’ while ‘battling on’

David Furnish, Elton John’s husband, shared that the singer is continuing to fight his health challenges.

The 78-year-old musician suffered a serious eye infection in July 2024 that caused him to lose sight in his right eye and significantly reduced vision in his left. As a result, he hasn’t been able to see, watch, or read for over a year.

David recently told Variety that Elton John is doing well and enjoying time at home with his sons, Zachary, 15, and Elijah, 13.

David shared that his husband is doing well, staying active, and focused on family. He’s enjoying being home with their sons, which is why he decided to stop touring.

Family and being together mean everything to us – we truly cherish our time as parents and as a family.

In November, Elton told how the last year had been ‘challening’ amid his battle with blindness.

He described the last fifteen months as incredibly difficult, explaining that losing sight in one eye and having severely impaired vision in the other meant he hadn’t been able to see, watch, or read anything. He told the publication it had been a devastating experience.

I’ve been very fortunate in my life, and I remain optimistic about the future. I’m holding out hope that medical science will eventually find a solution to my current health challenge. Once that happens, I’m confident I’ll be okay. It feels similar to how things were with the AIDS crisis – waiting for a breakthrough.

Never lose hope. Stay strong and resilient, and keep pushing forward to make things better, even when it’s difficult.

The popular musician, who finished touring last summer, shared that he’s been having problems with his vision in September 2024.

He shared a detailed post on Instagram explaining that he’d been recovering at home for the last few months.

Elton shared that he recently had a serious eye infection which has significantly reduced his vision in one eye.

I’m getting better, but it’s a very gradual recovery and it will likely be a while before I can see clearly again with that eye.

Honestly, I’m just so unbelievably thankful for everyone who’s helped me through the last few weeks. My doctors and nurses were amazing – I seriously don’t know what I would have done without them. And my family? They’ve been absolute angels, taking such incredible care of me. I owe them everything!

Elton shared that he’s been recovering at home all summer and is pleased with how well he’s been healing.

In October 2024, at the New York premiere of his documentary, Elton John: Never Too Late, the singer discussed some of his ongoing health issues.

Honestly, I’ve had a lot removed. I’ve lost my tonsils, adenoids, appendix, and even my prostate.

He explained that he’d lost both hips and both knees, leaving only his left hip remaining.

‘But I’m still here. And I can’t thank you [enough], you’re the people that made me.’
