In Season 2, episode 18, Elsbeth teamed up with Wagner, bringing a refreshing twist to the show.

In my humble opinion, as a cinephile immersed in the intricate world of this series, it’s evident that Kaya’s departure opens up new opportunities for characters such as Officer Chandler, Officer Reynolds, and Detective Rivers to shine brighter in future seasons. Notably, her ascension to the detective rank previously held by Buzz and Samantha seemed to diminish their screen time, a fact that left a noticeable void given the captivating allure each detective brought to their episodes. Therefore, the prospect of Buzz and Samantha’s comeback is eagerly anticipated now that Kaya takes a back seat, adding depth and intrigue to the narrative.

How Elsbeth Can Still Make The Most Of Kaya’s Reduced Role In Season 3

Kershaw And Wagner Have Already Teamed Up Before

Due to numerous alterations in Elsbeth’s procedural structure during season 2, like featuring an episode where the culprit remains unidentified and another where the suspect dies before proof of his guilt can be presented, Kaya’s newly appointed position within Kershaw’s task force could further transform the series’ format. The collaboration between Wagner and Kershaw has already shown promise, with Wagner assuming the challenging Detective Rivers in return for Kershaw reopening the Mertens case. This arrangement opens up an intriguing prospect for the show’s continuation.

From a movie buff’s perspective, the details about Kaya’s task force are still hazy, but it’s clear she’s undergoing what seems like federal training and might need to go undercover on occasion. If Wagner and Kershaw keep collaborating, there’s a hint that this task force could eventually align with Elsbeth down the line. While Elsbeth can be tricky at times, she’s never been seen going deep undercover like Tascioni. Thanks to Kaya’s recent promotion, that could change and make for an intriguing turn of events.
