Elsbeth Season 2 finds a killer guest star in Only Murders in the Building vet
As a long-time fan of both “Only Murders in the Building” and “The Good Wife”, I am beyond excited to see Nathan Lane joining the cast of “Elsbeth”! With his exceptional talent for bringing characters to life, I have no doubt that he will make Phillip Cross an unforgettable addition to the series. The fact that this character is an opera lover driven to murder due to a ringing cell phone is already intriguing and adds a unique twist to the storyline.
We’re eagerly anticipating the comeback of Elsbeth on our screens. Unfortunately, we won’t get to see her again until October, but CBS has given us a little sneak peek for when it does return. And here’s some exciting news: We now know who one of the guest stars playing a killer will be.
In the fourth season of “Only Murders in the Building,” the story moved to Hollywood. This shift meant that not every previous guest star would reappear, with Nathan Lane being one who wouldn’t return. His character’s narrative seemed to conclude at the end of the third season, as he and Oliver shared a heartfelt conversation.
Despite our continued desire for more, it appears Lane hasn’t faced employment difficulties. This isn’t shocking given that he remains a highly sought-after actor on both television and Broadway. One of his upcoming roles will be featured in Episode X of Elsbeth Season 2.
Who will Nathan Lane play in Elsbeth Season 2?
According to TVLine, Lane has been cast as Phillip Cross, an opera enthusiast who succumbs to homicide due to a persistent cell phone ringtone. It’s hard not to sympathize with him considering how disruptive and bothersome an unruly cell phone can be during a cinematic or theatrical experience.
In each episode, it’s clear from the start which character turns out to be the culprit in this detective-style series. We can refer to it as a “whodunit,” but since we already know who did it, it might be more accurate to call it an “howdunit.”
Yes, Nathan Lane was in The Good Wife
As a dedicated gamer, I’m excitedly hoping that the new series will bring some thrill by referencing Lane’s past role in Elsbeth’s original show. He graced our screens as Clarke Hayden, a versatile character who balanced his legal and accounting skills, appearing frequently across several episodes.
Is there a possibility for Elsbeth to notice a resemblance between Cross’s appearance and Hayden’s? Perhaps their personalities share some similar traits? However, the show might not acknowledge this connection, but occasionally, including such nods to past characters (like Easter eggs) can enhance the viewing experience.
Elsbeth Season 2 premieres on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 10/9c on CBS.
