It appears that Elmo’s world has been associated with some very offensive social media content lately, including hate speech like racism, antisemitism, and profanity.
Over the weekend, fans of Sesame Street’s iconic 3½-year-old character were surprised by a change in his social media posts. Instead of his usual friendly and educational content, he started posting offensive messages, such as inciting violence against the Jewish community, using vulgar language to demand President Trump reveal Jeffrey Epstein’s client list, implying involvement in Epstein’s sex trafficking case. These explicit posts, shared on Sunday, quickly went viral, with screenshots also circulating widely. By Monday morning, these posts had been removed from Elmo’s account.
Representing Sesame Workshop, the creators of “Sesame Street” and Elmo, confirmed to the Associated Press that an unidentified hacker had taken control of Elmo’s account, posting offensive content such as antisemitic and racist messages.

Netflix has announced that “Sesame Street” will join its library, as Warner Bros. Discovery decided against renewing their contract for new episodes due to a change in business focus amidst a time of significant budget reductions.
“We are working to restore full control of the account,” the spokesperson added.
On Monday, a spokesperson for X didn’t promptly verify or give further details about the reported hack to The Times.
Apart from the questionable tweets, an individual claiming to be a hacker also posted a puzzling link on the popular puppet’s account. This link, now deleted, directed users and online detectives to a specific Telegram channel. On this channel, the user seems to claim responsibility for the hack. One message shared on Sunday, the day when Elmo’s unusual posts appeared, reads “Thanks Elmo.
In a separate message on Telegram, the user expresses admiration towards Adolf Hitler and Kanye West, who infamously has several disputes related to antisemitic remarks and inflammatory statements.
The now-erased tweets showcased a significant change in the tone for the red puppet’s online persona. Normally posting pictures with friends and friendly messages, Elmo, whose primary activities often include this, caused quite a stir on the internet last year with an apparently ordinary message: “Elmo is just touching base! How are you all doing?

On Monday, an innocuous tweet by Elmo led countless X users to share their mental health challenges openly – ranging from individual experiences to broader societal issues.
On Elmo’s Twitter profile, a pinned tweet sparked frank responses from various followers. “West Side Story” actress Rachel Zegler responded by saying, “I’m holding back from telling Elmo that I feel a bit melancholic.
In simpler terms, Elmo advised his followers to reach out and ask friends about their well-being, as he too has learned the significance of such inquiries.
He added: “Elmo will check in again soon, friends! Elmo loves you.”
Following the trending tweet, Sesame Workshop shared a mental health resource guide on their website, emphasizing to everyone that “Mental health matters just as much as physical health!
It’s apparent that the person accused of hacking wasn’t aware of Elmo’s long-term commitment towards kindness and empathy.
