Ellen DeGeneres & Wife Celebrate Birthday in London After Moving to UK to Escape Trump
On a chilly Friday, Ellen DeGeneres and her partner Portia de Rossi, who turned 52 that day, cozied together as they ventured out to mark Portia’s birthday at the Chiltern Firehouse in London.
This past year, the couple who moved to the UK from the U.S., discontent with Donald Trump’s victory, appeared cheerful as they ventured out despite the chilly winter conditions.
Wearing a navy coat and flaunting her recently dyed chestnut hair, Ellen, aged 67, held tightly onto Portia, walking towards the popular venue frequented by celebrities.
The retired comedian added a black jumper, jeans and white trainers to her casual look.
As the birthday girl, I chose to make a stylish statement with my taupe three-piece outfit, which certainly turned heads. At 52, I believe age is just a number when it comes to expressing one’s personal style.
In an Australian-American style, she donned a shirt and pants set that appeared to be made of wool, accessorizing it with a matching coat and long black boots.

As a devoted admirer, I find myself beaming just thinking about the blissful pair who reside approximately 100 miles away in the enchanting Cotswolds. Over the past days, it appears they’ve comfortably acclimated to their new life here in the UK, and as they prepared for the upcoming weekend, they couldn’t help but keep their smiles radiantly visible.
Just a few weeks have passed since Ellen was seen again in the U.S., following her promise to depart permanently, which she made after Donald Trump’s election win in November.
Last year, I, along with my partner, relocated to the United Kingdom; however, our ties to America, particularly Montecito, remain deeply rooted.
Last month, DeGeneres was photographed at her former hangouts when she visited Casa Dorinda – a high-end retirement community often referred to as a luxurious care home, where renowned figures like Julia Child spent their later years.
It isn’t clear which popular movie star was paying a visit to the residence, but there’s a chance that her mother-in-law, Margaret Rogers, might have relocated to an upscale retirement community following the sale of her Westlake Village townhouse in 2020.
Ellen and Portia currently reside in the tranquil countryside region of Southwest England, approximately 100 miles from London, in a luxurious farmhouse worth millions.
It is reported that they became deeply enamored with the charming country estate nestled amidst the rolling hills of the Cotswolds, featuring not only a scenic landscape but also boasting amenities such as a helicopter landing pad and a swimming pool.
As a lifestyle advisor, I’d put it this way: In my experience, when people have their heart set on a dream property, they’re willing to pull out all the stops. This dynamic duo was no exception; they seemed ready to stretch their budget to its limit, even going as far as offering an astonishing £2.5million over the asking price! That equates roughly to $3million in American currency, quite a significant sum!

15 years back, the house they now call home underwent a transformation from a traditional farmhouse into a contemporary luxury abode boasting six bedrooms and four baths.
The property boasts an on-site gym, game areas, independent workspaces, a one-bedroom cottage, and a spacious five-bay garage. It also preserves its traditional allure, as ancillary barns are linked to the primary structure through glass-enclosed corridors.
This location is frequently chosen by celebrities and affluent individuals seeking tranquility away from the city noise of London. It serves as a perfect retreat for DeGeneres and Rossi, who moved from Los Angeles to Montecito in Santa Barbara County, which lies approximately 75 miles north.
In the picturesque area of the Cotswolds, you’ll find celebrities such as David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Patrick Stewart, Elizabeth Hurley, Jeremy Clarkson, and Damien Hirst, along with numerous other famous figures.
The area is even home to royalty, as King Charles owns Highgrove House in Gloucestershire.
Weeks ago, I was practically stranded alongside my beloved couple, as the region surrounding our sprawling 43-acre estate turned into a deluge after Storm Bert’s relentless onslaught.
Later, Ellen DeGeneres posted a selfie on Instagram showing her and her spouse in the countryside, celebrating their 20-year anniversary as best friends and soulmates. She assured everyone that they were unharmed by the storm.

‘P.S. for those of you concerned, our UK farmhouse did NOT flood,’ she wrote.
Back in October, it was announced by The Sun that the couple had already acquired a property in the Cotswolds region before the 2024 election takes place.
Following Trump’s victory, the married couple allegedly felt profoundly disappointed, as reported by sources talking to TMZ. One source even claimed that they swore to leave the United States immediately, expressing their intention to do so.
As a devoted admirer, I must admit that while numerous renowned figures expressed their intention to depart from the U.S. should Donald Trump secure victory, the majority appear to have not acted upon their words.
Some celebrities such as Cher, Barbra Streisand, Sharon Stone, and Sophie Turner have expressed thoughts about possibly relocating from the United States if Donald Trump became president. However, it remains uncertain whether any of these individuals will ultimately follow through with their plans.
Beyond just Trump’s re-election, DeGeneres had several compelling motivations for seeking a new beginning elsewhere.

Her career suffered significant damage, possibly irreversibly, due to allegations of creating an unpleasant work environment on the set of her self-titled daytime talk show, which aired its final episode on May 26, 2022.
On her comedy special titled “For Your Approval,” which became available on Netflix at the end of September, she explored her controversial reputation.
In the special, the comedian playfully mentioned being “booted from the entertainment industry,” as it contained humorous content discussing what she’s been up to since her TV series concluded.
As reported by The Wrap, it appears that Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi may have quietly placed their Bali-inspired Montecito home on the market, or they are considering doing so in the near future.
DeGeneres and de Rossi purchased the massive home for an eye-popping $27million in 2019.
This grand residence boasts five spacious bedrooms, ten modern bathrooms spread across approximately 8,188 square feet, and unique elements such as ornate bamboo ceilings, striking flamed black limestone, and stunning weathered oak flooring add to its charm.
