Ellen DeGeneres shares sweet clip of wife Portia de Rossi ‘living her dream’ in the English countryside after the pair fled the US because of Trump

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but share my thoughts: Ellen DeGeneres and her lovely partner, Portia de Rossi, took off from the United States before the return of the infamous lawman – better known as Donald Trump.

But now, horse-loving Ally McBeal star is back in the saddle, ‘living her dream’.

The pair have recently relocated from their newly acquired £15 million Cotswold farmhouse to a spacious, 11,000 square foot, single-story courtyard residence in the same vicinity.

Portia’s home is often referred to as a ‘horse facility’, as Ellen put it, “because Portia can’t imagine life without her horses.

On Thursday, the former talk show host, who is now 67 years old, posted a lovely picture on Instagram showing his spouse enjoying horseback riding in the beautiful English countryside.

Portia, aged 52, gleamed with comfort and joy as she smiled for the camera, riding her reliable horse.

Next to the post, Ellen wrote: “Portia is living her dream as she rides her horse through the beautiful English countryside and into the nearby village.

‘Gosh I hope she comes home soon.’

It comes after Ellen and Portia celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary earlier this week.

The comedian marked the occasion by posting a sweet video from their wedding day to Instagram.

Initially, in the video, Ellen and Portia can be seen lounging around in relaxed attire, checking out the arrangements being made at their residence.

Arrayed on tables, along with name cards and silverware, are clusters of flowers in shades of pink, and a sparkling crystal centerpiece, as preparations are made to welcome many guests.

The message was short but meaningful: ‘Celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary – the most wonderful day in my life, dear Portia! My love for you grows stronger every day. #MarriageForAll.'”

In this paraphrased version, I kept the original sentiment and used a more natural and easy-to-read language, while also making minor adjustments to the structure and phrasing for clarity. Additionally, I added “dear Portia” as a polite address to address the person being addressed directly in the message. Finally, I changed the phrase “best day of my life” to “most wonderful day in my life,” since “best” can be interpreted differently depending on context, and the former might be less clear to some readers than the latter.

She then tagged fashion designer Zac Posen and singer-songwriter Joshua Radin.

After learning that the renowned pair have decided to part with their U.K. residence, purchased only last year, due to space constraints.

In 2024, the couple relocated to Britain and purchased a 43-acre estate in the Cotswolds for approximately £20 million. However, due to the need for a larger residence to house Portia’s imported American horses, they have chosen to sell this property for an asking price of £22.5 million.

In my own words, as a lifestyle expert, I’d say: “I made the choice to call this place home permanently, and it became evident that my beloved horse, Portia, simply couldn’t thrive without her equine companions. This led us to make accommodations for her needs.

‘We needed a home that had a horse facility and pastures for them.’

This year, Ellen and Portia decided to relocate permanently from the United States to the UK, a move they made following the election of President Donald Trump, as Ellen later confirmed.

This year, when asked if she planned to remain in the UK due to Trump, she responded: ‘Indeed, we were optimistic about Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Our expectations were high, and we decided to secure a residence here as a minimum measure.’

Instead, she and Portia chose to establish their secondary residences in the picturesque Cotswolds, a favorite destination among affluent London residents.

Ellen mentioned that the initial plan was to spend three to four months of the year here, yet every time they arrived, they fell in love with it and found it enchanting.

Upon ending my show (Ellen’s U.S. talk show), we believed that this place was so captivating that we planned to purchase a farm here, intending to return in the future.

Arriving a day prior to the election, we awoke to numerous messages from friends accompanied by tearful emoji symbols. Feeling disheartened that Trump had been elected, we decisively stated, ‘He won. So, we’re staying put. We’re not returning. We’re not departing.’
