Ellen DeGeneres was among the first celebrities to express support after Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show was renewed following its recent suspension.
Just after news broke that ABC had decided to reinstate Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the 67-year-old comedian shared her reaction on social media.
Ellen DeGeneres, a well-known talk show host, was among the many celebrities who publicly backed Jimmy Kimmel and celebrated the news on Monday.
The network canceled Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show for an unspecified amount of time after he made comments some considered controversial about Charlie Kirk.
Even though ABC is bringing Jimmy Kimmel’s show back, its return is facing a roadblock. Sinclair Inc., a large group of ABC stations, is refusing to air the program, despite a planned comeback monologue, according to sources.
Ellen DeGeneres said she’s excited to see Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue tomorrow, posting a screenshot of the news on Instagram. This came as other late-night talk show hosts also talked about the news during their own shows on Monday.

Maria Shriver reacted to the news on X (formerly Twitter), writing, ‘Well, this is something! And the story goes on…’
She announced the news on Instagram with a detailed post discussing the need for more open conversations and a path forward beyond ‘cancel culture’.
Jimmy Kimmel is back on TV tomorrow night. ABC had previously suspended his show, *Jimmy Kimmel Live*, but has now lifted that suspension.
Honestly, we can only speculate about what really happened privately, but it’s pretty clear to me that this whole situation was driven by business considerations. That much seems certain.
ABC’s recent decision to reinstate someone they previously fired could encourage other companies to do the same. Hopefully, this signals a shift away from ‘cancel culture’ and towards more constructive conversations where we can actually understand each other. Ultimately, forgiveness, open communication, and empathy are the keys to moving forward. #abovethenoise
Alyssa Milano, known for her role on ‘Charmed,’ posted a screenshot of the news and encouraged people to speak out, writing, ‘Protest matters. Use your voice.’
Even though he’s pleased with recent developments, actor Joshua Malina, known for his role in ‘Scandal,’ is hesitant to resubscribe to Disney+ after the recent boycott.
‘Boom,’ he tweeted on X. ‘I am not. I think it’s early to know how this all ultimately plays out.’

Comedian Gianmarco Soresi jokingly pointed out on X that this entire situation will likely boost Jimmy Kimmel’s show ratings.
Piers Morgan commented on X, pointing out that Jimmy Kimmel wasn’t canceled by Donald Trump or the Federal Communications Commission. Instead, Kimmel was temporarily suspended by his own employer, who felt his remarks were poorly timed and lacked sensitivity.
Several other late-night talk show hosts joined in sharing their relief that Kimmel’s suspension had been lifted.
Seth Meyers, host of Late Night on NBC, explained the news as a consequence of widespread public opposition to Donald Trump’s efforts to limit free speech, including from people who typically support conservative views.
He began his ‘A Closer Look’ segment on Monday night with a lighthearted joke about the show’s security and being broadcast on NBC.
Donald Trump has publicly asked his attorney general to prosecute people he views as political opponents, and jokingly suggested that TV networks critical of him should have their broadcasting licenses revoked.
Wait a minute… are we part of a TV network now? That doesn’t seem right. I mean, I don’t even dress the part! I always thought we were just shown on those little TVs at gas stations.
Meyers noted that late-night hosts joking about politicians isn’t something new – it happened long before Trump and his team.

He noted that he has made a number of jokes about former President Biden in the past.
We often make fun of politicians and current events, and that includes Joe Biden. It was just a little more difficult to joke about him because he wasn’t very talkative, Trump quipped.
You, however, are a constant talker. You never seem to run out of things to say – not even when he was in office. In fact, you’ve spoken more than all previous presidents put together.
He joked that people often point out Johnny Carson didn’t tell many political jokes, but he would have if Ronald Reagan constantly talked about everyday problems like broken toilets whenever he had the chance.
Stephen Colbert talked about Jimmy Kimmel’s upcoming return on his show, The Late Show. He joked that the news from Disney – that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would be back on the air – meant the end of a difficult period for late-night television.
Colbert also joked about the safety of his talk show.
I’m thrilled for my friend Jimmy and everyone who works with him. It’s great that he’s no longer facing cancellation, and honestly, it means I can finally enjoy my Emmy again! It seems I’m the only late-night host who’s had to overcome adversity… unless CBS has something to share?

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! Disney just announced they’re letting Jimmy Kimmel back on the air! They had suspended his show, but thankfully they changed their minds! I’m so relieved – I seriously couldn’t imagine life without Jimmy!
We paused production of the show last Wednesday to de-escalate a sensitive situation during a difficult time for the nation. We felt some recent remarks were inappropriate, and we wanted to be respectful. After careful discussions with Jimmy over the past few days, we’ve decided to bring the show back on Tuesday.
ABC temporarily stopped airing Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week after viewers reacted negatively to comments the host made about the person who killed a conservative political activist.
On Monday’s show, Jimmy Kimmel made a controversial comment about how supporters of Donald Trump, often called the ‘MAGA gang,’ were trying to distance themselves from the person who allegedly attacked Charlie Kirk. Kimmel suggested they were doing so in an attempt to gain a political advantage.
