Elle Macpherson reveals when she first began her relationship with her 'inner self and intuition' after backlash over her 'holistic' cancer claims

As a lifestyle expert with decades of experience under my belt, I find Elle Macpherson’s journey to be nothing short of inspiring. Her ability to listen to her inner self, even at the start of her career, is a testament to her intuition and self-awareness. It’s a lesson we can all learn from, especially in today’s fast-paced world where we often forget to check in with ourselves.

Elle Macpherson shares insights on the moment she began heeding her inner voice, following criticism regarding her holistic cancer assertions.

Instead of going with the conventional treatment method, the supermodel, aged 60, surprised her followers by opting for a more intuitive and emotionally guided, whole-body approach.

Initially concealing her struggle, Elle disclosed that she had been fighting breast cancer, which was diagnosed in 2017, in her self-titled book, “Life, Lessons, and Learning to Trust Yourself,” following her remission.

After publishing her memoir, Elle has faced criticism for allegedly advocating risky methods associated with the alternative therapy she underwent during her struggle.

During an appearance on The Morning Show in Australia, Elle spoke about how far back her relationship with listening to her ‘inner-self’ dates back, revealing it began at the start of her career.

Initially, an Australian native began to heed her body’s signals when she felt severely unwell following her rejection of her debut modeling opportunity in the United States.

She expressed that she got offered a chance to begin modeling – they invited her to America for modeling, but initially, she declined, and immediately afterward, she felt nauseous and rushed to the bathroom where she vomited.

In my statement, I realized for the first time that I had acted against my own beliefs. Since then, I’ve been developing a connection with my inner self, intuition, and using both to guide my actions wisely. This theme of living intuitively and sensibly is a significant element in my new book.

Fans were taken aback when she disclosed that she’d been using the same mantra to cope with her cancer diagnosis, and she sought out a holistic practitioner to aid her in defeating the illness.

She chose not to follow the recommendations of thirty-two doctors who advised chemotherapy following her lumpectomy, as she had been diagnosed with HER2 positive, estrogen receptive intraductal carcinoma and opted against it instead.

She underwent eight months of intense therapy with doctors in Phoenix, Arizona, taking a holistic route.

Reflecting on her emotions, she expressed that it was surprising, unforeseen, puzzling, and intimidating in numerous aspects. It also presented a chance for her to delve into her innermost thoughts to discover a resolution that suited her best.

In the midst of my journey, I came to understand that I needed a personal truth, a set of beliefs that would guide me. And that’s exactly what I embraced. It was an enriching experience of staying true to myself, building trust in myself, and trusting the path my body was taking. So, I chose the course of action that resonated with me deeply.

Her initial remarks triggered criticism from several well-known personalities, among them being Mel Schilling, an expert on the reality show Married At First Sight.

52-year-old Schilling, undergoing chemotherapy in her fight against colon cancer, criticized Elle for openly disclosing her decision to forego traditional medical treatments in favor of a more holistic approach.

In a video posted on Instagram, Mel expressed her reflections on Elle and the recent interviews she’s been giving, considering herself as a fresh face within the cancer community and having recently finished a six-month chemotherapy treatment period.

Years ago, I was faced with the challenging news of being diagnosed with breast cancer. Over time, I sought help from over thirty medical professionals, all of whom recommended a multi-faceted treatment plan that included chemotherapy, radiation, and hormone therapy.

Instead, she opted for a comprehensive, health-focused strategy, encompassing elements such as prayer, mindfulness, and similar practices.

Mel expressed her disagreement with Elle advocating for an alternative method of cancer treatment instead of the established one, since this might encourage others to follow suit.

The once prominent figure on the runway has also ignited discussion among both the general public and medical experts regarding the unusual course of therapy they’ve chosen.

Seven years past, I, as a survivor, was given the life-altering news of breast cancer. Only recently, in my heartfelt memoir, did I choose to disclose this profound part of my journey.

In an open conversation with 60 Minutes Australia, Elle shared that she was taken aback upon receiving a breast cancer diagnosis, yet opted against the recommended mastectomy and chemotherapy treatments as advised by her physicians.

She explained that it came as quite a surprise, a feeling that likely resonates with many women upon receiving such a diagnosis. They often don’t anticipate it happening to them.

She had a lumpectomy, but the results showed that the cancer’s borders were not distinct, suggesting it might have metastasized.

She said she was told to have a ‘mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation and hormone replacement’.

She mentioned that she’s consistently chosen ‘homeopathic or herbal remedies’, and described this decision as ‘unusual’, similar to other aspects of her lifestyle.

She stated, “I was faced with the difficult decision between forgoing my breasts or preserving my life. To clarify, this wasn’t a decision driven by vanity, but rather an integral part of my treatment process.

‘I had been really looking at the body in a holistic way — spiritual and physical well-being’.
