Elle King called her dad 'toxic.' Now, Rob Schneider says he hopes she can forgive him

As someone who has navigated through complex family dynamics myself, I can empathize with both Rob Schneider and Elle King in this situation. It’s heartbreaking to see a father and daughter seemingly estranged, especially when it seems that their past experiences have left deep scars.

In light of recent revelations by singer Elle King about the state of their relationship, Rob Schneider has chosen to address his estranged daughter.

“In a recent interview, Schneider expressed, ‘I wished I could tell my daughter Elle, “I love you and if I had been your father in my 20s, I believe I could have been the one you needed,”‘ but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me for not being the father I wish I could have been. I love you entirely.”

Actor from Saturday Night Live, previously known as “The Hot Chick”, finally spoke out regarding his daughter’s remarks made in an interview with Tucker Carlson on Wednesday. In a podcast episode released Monday, the daughter stated she chose to distance herself from her father early in her music career because he was toxic during her childhood and she didn’t want to be associated with him.

The 35-year-old singer, who is also the child of Schneider and ex-wife London King (an actor-model), revealed that she was predominantly brought up by her mother and her stepfather. However, when she did visit Schneider, according to King, it wasn’t enjoyable. “If I ever spent a summer with my dad, it would be on a film set… I’d easily get lost in the crowd,” King explained.

The musician stated that she could face reprimands and be excluded from the film set. Moreover, she mentioned that her father often overlooked her birthdays and, when she was around 12 years old, he enrolled her in a weight loss camp.

Last year, King found himself in a predicament due to an ankle injury that prevented him from losing weight. He admitted it was both unhealthy and foolish. Furthermore, he expressed that the situation became so uncomfortable that he chose not to spend the summer with him.

The strife between Schneider and King didn’t just stem from their shared past; it also surfaced when King launched her debut album, “Love Stuff,” in 2015. At this point, King noted that her background and relationship with Schneider drew significant attention.

“Initially, there were questions about my father; he personally contacted me and expressed his displeasure about discussing him in public media. However, I chose to ignore his request.”

In yesterday’s broadcast, she criticized Schneider for his traditionalist opinions on issues like drag and LGBTQ+ rights, labeling them as outdated and intolerant. Back in September, Schneider stated that he identifies as a ’70s liberal, which nowadays places him firmly within conservative ranks.

The king made it clear that she disagreed with her father’s opinions. She further stated, “He never provided assistance for me. I never wanted his aid.”

Schneider expressed feeling extremely unhappy, yet he didn’t verify or negate his daughter’s allegations. He added, “Please understand that I don’t interpret your words as a personal attack.”

“I love her and all I want for her is to be happy and to heal from this,” Schneider told Carlson.

Among Schneider’s three offspring, King is the oldest one. Following a two-year union, Schneider and London King parted ways through divorce in 1990. From 2002 to 2005, he was wedded to Helena Schneider. In 2011, Schneider tied the knot with producer Patricia Azarcoya Arce, who is the mother of his two daughters.
