Elle Fanning joins Timothee Chalamet at NYC screening of Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown
As a cinephile with a penchant for biographical dramas and a deep appreciation for music that has shaped generations, I find myself eagerly anticipating the release of “A Complete Unknown.” Timothee Chalamet’s portrayal of Bob Dylan in this film promises to be a captivating journey through the early days of one of the most influential musicians of our time.
Actress Elle Fanning attended a special screening of the Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, alongside her co-star Timothée Chalamet, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
On Saturday, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) organized an exclusive event to display the movie chronicling the life of folk icon Bob Dylan, which is being considered as a potential nominee for the Oscars in 2025.
The movie titled “A Complete Unknown” is set to premiere in cinemas on Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25th. It’s been met with a variety of opinions from both viewers and critics, ranging from positive to negative.
On Saturday, the highly anticipated event showcased a distinguished panel, comprising actors like Timothée Chalamet, Elle Fanning, James Mangold, Boyd Holbrook, and Monica Barbaro.
26-year-old Fanning portrayed Sylvie Russo, a character reminiscent of the ’60s muse of the renowned singer, donning a daringly low-cut mint-green blouse that hinted at her lace bra beneath, accompanied by a stylish black flared skirt.
In a relaxed style, Timothée Chalamet, aged 28, dressed casually for the occasion while playing a youthful Dylan in the movie. He wore a dark jacket, black denim pants, and brown boots.
Last night, the actor from Dune surprised fans by sporting straight, platinum-blond hair under a blue beanie, mirroring one of Dylan’s famous 2003 styles. Given the sudden change in his hairstyle, it seems reasonable to presume that he was probably wearing a wig.
As I stepped into character for my role as the captivating Joan Baez in the movie, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of timeless elegance. The black jumpsuit adorned with voluminous puffed sleeves and golden fastenings was more than just an outfit – it became a symbol of the iconic spirit I was embodying.
In the upcoming film, the actor from Dune is set to depict Bob Dylan, with the plot focusing on the contentious moment when Dylan switched to electric guitars during the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, a decision that stirred controversy.
Timothée Chalamet, along with Edward Norton, has been officially set to sing in the upcoming film. This comes after he contributed his voice to the 2023 musical film “Wonka.
The film “A Complete Unknown” has previously been recognized with three nominations at the Golden Globes: one for Best Drama Film and another for Timothée Chalamet, acknowledging his portrayal of the 83-year-old singer.
At the Critics Choice Awards, the movie was given a nomination for the category of Best Picture, Timothée Chalamet was recognized in the Best Actor category, and Bruce Willis received a nod for Best Supporting Actor.
Director James Mangold revealed that he’s collaborated with Bob Dylan for this particular venture, and it turns out that the Hurricane singer offered some of his own ideas to shape the script.
On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the filmmaker shared that they had delightful, private conversations with him for several days straight.
I possess a special script, marked up by him and valued greatly by myself. This person is a movie enthusiast. During my initial conversation with Bob, one of his earliest statements to me was, “I have a soft spot for Cop Land.
Although the image portrays aspects of Dylan’s youth, it’s important to note that Complete Unknown is not solely a biographical account focusing on the musician, but rather a more expansive narrative.
He explained: ‘By the way, it’s not really a Bob Dylan biopic.
The reason Bob has been so backing of our project is likely because he believes, as I do, that the most genuine real-life films aren’t about a character’s entire life span (from birth to death), but rather, they focus on a particular significant moment.
The speaker mentioned that the story could have an atmosphere reminiscent of Altman, but it essentially revolves around a collective narrative set in the 60s New York, focusing on a 17-year-old boy with only $16 who travels to New York City to encounter Woody Guthrie, who was terminally ill with a nerve disease at that time.
In late August, Timothée Chalamet shared on Instagram an initial glimpse of the movie poster for the eagerly awaited film. This came shortly after the unveiling of the first trailer, offering a sneak peek of the character played by the New York native.
And he has been seen channeling the singer on set on various occasions.
A confidant near the actor mentioned that there’s a significant amount riding on his performance: ‘He’s under immense scrutiny because Bob Dylan devotees are extremely passionate and will critically assess any interpretation, should he make a mistake.’
The title “A Complete Unknown” is reminiscent of Dylan’s iconic rock ballad that revolutionized his career, “Like a Changing Tide.
