Elizabeth Tulloch Reveals the Dream Superman & Lois Episode We All Wish Happened!

In her own words, Elizabeth Tulloch shared an unrealized dream episode concept she wished could have been featured in the DC series “Superman & Lois” before it concluded. Over three years and four seasons, the show managed to pack a multitude of stories within its main narrative. Despite this, there were numerous subplots that could have benefited from further exploration had the live-action Superman show been given more time.

Ever since the finale of Superman & Lois season 4, my mind has been brimming with unexplored ideas for the subsequent chapters of this series. Among these, the potential inclusion of DC villains such as Brainiac and Darkseid in later seasons intrigues me greatly. Yet, a suggestion from Elizabeth Tulloch, who plays Lois Lane, about an episode she had envisioned, stirs another idea that I yearn to see unfold on-screen someday.

Superman & Lois Show Star Elizabeth Tulloch Has Explained An Episode Dream That Didn’t Come To Fruition In The Series

Speaking with Joe Deckelmeier from ScreenRant during the “Being Superman With The Cast Of Superman & Lois” Fan Expo Philadelphia panel, I, Elizabeth Tulloch, shared some behind-the-scenes insights about our show and potential plot developments. In this discussion, I expressed a personal wish for an episode that might have been included in the seven or eight seasons we were initially promised, where my character, Lois, would have gained superpowers.

In further discussion about the show, the actor playing Lois revealed that “It would have been great if I could demonstrate my flying ability. I’d love to soar on wires just once.” The star of Superman & Lois concurred, with Tyler Hoechlin expressing his wish by saying “I would have sacrificed anything to witness that episode.” This concept would have fitted well within the series, given its focus on family and shared experiences. Moreover, the show had previously explored the idea of non-superhumans gaining powers through storylines such as the X-Kryptonite arc in season 2.

Why Giving Lois Lane Powers Would Have Been Perfect For Superman & Lois

The series Superman & Lois emphasizes Lois Lane’s personal journey and growth, demonstrating that she is much more than simply Clark Kent’s love interest. Her unwavering integrity, courage, and steadfast commitment to what she believes in are crucial elements of the show. Although Lois participates in action sequences, they frequently involve her needing rescue by Superman. It would have been intriguing to explore what might happen if Lois had her own powers, even if only for a short while.

In essence, since the narrative predominantly focuses on Clark, Lois, and their sons exploring their relationships and striving to comprehend each other’s viewpoints, it would have been intriguing if Lois had some personal insights into what having superpowers entails. This could have provided her with a deeper understanding of Jordan’s struggles in concealing his abilities from others, as well as fostering a stronger connection with Jonathan prior to the manifestation of his ‘proper’ powers in season 4. The experience of exposure to X-Kryptonite might have given her a glimpse into what that must have felt like for him.

In another scenario, if Lois possessed powers in an episode, it would’ve added intrigue to the primary narrative focusing on Superman and Lois themselves. Clark might have felt a mix of joy at the prospect of flying together with Lois, yet worry about her safety since he’s always careful about his sons using their flying abilities after proper training. This situation could have generated both conflict and shared excitement, making it an ideal fit for the series Superman & Lois.

Tulloch suggests that the kind of episode in question might have been suitable for an extended run of Superman & Lois, as the limited 4-season span meant there was less room for episodes not directly tied to the main plot, and promising ideas intended for future seasons were left unrealized. It’s a pity this story didn’t make it onto the screen, especially since it appears it could have been woven into existing Superman & Lois storylines.

Superman & Lois Just Missed Out On Several Opportunities To Given Lois Powers

Previously mentioned, the X-Kryptonite drug storyline in Superman & Lois presented an intriguing opportunity for the DC series to delve into the concept of Lois Lane acquiring the ability to fly. Although it would be uncharacteristic for Lois to just choose to consume the substance for personal gain, one could envision a situation where Lois’ children or husband were in peril, and she believed that obtaining powers was her sole means of rescuing them.

In a different scenario, introducing X-Kryptonite into Jonathan’s storyline could have added depth to this particular chapter. This is because it might have served as a sort of wake-up call for him, considering he used it to maintain his position in the football team. Moreover, it’s plausible that Lois would have only taken it once, temporarily gaining powers to save others before turning down the chance to possess superhuman abilities such as flight.

This twist could have created an intriguing parallel within the series, while simultaneously highlighting Lois’ unique resilience and strength. It also might have underscored her ability to showcase these traits without relying on superpowers.

If the plot for “Superman & Lois” in season 2 had taken a different route, it might have explored the possibility of Lois gaining powers as well, similar to how Jonathan obtains his powers earlier than Jordan in the Bizarro universe’s version of events, which is opposite from the main storyline. Given the numerous comic book precedents that support this scenario, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to consider this as a potential development. However, for now, this intriguing concept appears destined to remain a captivating example of an alternate path for “Superman & Lois.
