Elizabeth Olsen’s MCU Return Could Lead to Major X-Men Storyline

Elizabeth Olsen’s MCU return as Scarlet Witch could lead to a major X-Men storyline.

Elizabeth Olsen last played Scarlet Witch in the 2022 film *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*. She’s currently voicing a zombie version of Wanda Maximoff in the upcoming Disney+ series *Marvel Zombies*. There’s also a lot of speculation that she’ll be in the next *Avengers* movie, *Avengers: Doomsday*, but Marvel hasn’t confirmed her involvement yet.

What is the new rumor about Elizabeth Olsen’s MCU return?

So, everyone’s buzzing about Elizabeth Olsen potentially being in Marvel’s *Avengers: Doomsday*. I was recently chatting with Alex Perez over at The Cosmic Circus, and naturally, I had to ask – if she *is* in the film, what kind of role can we expect Wanda Maximoff to play? It’s the question on everyone’s mind, and Perez had some interesting thoughts.

According to a source, there’s been talk of introducing a version of Wanda Maximoff from the X-Men universe in the upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday* film. This version would be set in a reality where Magneto has successfully established Genosha as his ideal nation, and features a ‘royal family’ dynamic with Magneto, Pietro, Wanda, and Polaris. While this idea has been considered since *Multiverse of Madness* and discussed during the development of *Deadpool & Wolverine*, it hasn’t quite felt right for the main storyline. The primary focus with this version of Wanda would be exploring her relationship with Magneto as a father figure.

So, someone asked me about Ian McKellen potentially playing Magneto in this new Avengers movie, ‘Doomsday,’ and it got me thinking. The director, Perez, actually responded with a really powerful quote from one of the recent X-Men comics. Magneto says, “A lifetime – several lifetimes – spent chasing haven after haven, promised land after promised land, and for what? Every time the gates of Eden slam shut in our faces, it breaks us a little more.” It’s a pretty heavy line, and it definitely made me think about Magneto’s journey and how it might fit into the Avengers story. It’s a fantastic tease, honestly!

Marvel Studios will release *Avengers: Doomsday* in U.S. cinemas on December 18, 2026. The next installment, *Avengers: Secret Wars*, is scheduled to follow a year later on December 17, 2027.
