Elizabeth Olsen Reveals The One Marvel Villain Who Would Bring The Scarlet Witch Back to the MCU

As a longtime follower of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I was really intrigued by recent comments from Elizabeth Olsen. She revealed there’s one villain who could potentially bring her character, the Scarlet Witch, back into the fold. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Wanda Maximoff – Olsen’s played her since 2014, but her fate seemed sealed after the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Remember that devastating collapse of Mount Wundagore? It looked like the end for her after that showdown with Doctor Strange, leaving her future with Marvel very much up in the air.

Even though her character died in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Elizabeth Olsen has recently hinted at a possible return. She recently told fans at Spacecon San Antonio (reported by MCU Film News on X) that one villain, Aubrey Plaza’s Death, could be the key to bringing Scarlet Witch back into the action.

Elizabeth Olsen said she’d be thrilled to work with Aubrey Plaza again. The two previously collaborated on the 2017 film Ingrid Goes West. Since then, Plaza joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing the villain Rio Vidal (also known as Lady Death) in the popular 2024 streaming series Agatha All Along.

Elizabeth Olsen and Jenna Ortega’s characters haven’t shared a scene in any Marvel Studios projects so far. However, Olsen hopes that both Wanda Maximoff and Ortega’s character could return in the future.

Olsen has often talked about potentially returning to the show, even after her character’s death. She recently mentioned that if she did come back, she’d like to play an older, weathered version of herself.

Rumors suggest Plaza’s character might be coming back to the show, but there are currently no confirmed details about when or how that might happen.

While Elizabeth Olsen did reprise her role as Scarlet Witch in the animated series Marvel Zombies, which premiered in 2025, it wasn’t part of the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. The recording for her appearance was actually done years prior, and the series takes place in a separate reality.

Will Scarlet Witch and Lady Death Share the Screen in the MCU?

Elizabeth Olsen wants to see a team-up between her character, Scarlet Witch, and Aubrey Plaza’s Lady Death, but there are currently no plans for that to happen. While fans might love to see it, neither character has a confirmed upcoming project with Marvel Studios.

People are speculating that Elizabeth Olsen might appear in next year’s Avengers: Doomsday, but there’s been no official confirmation.

If the character returns from the dead in Doomsday, Agatha Harkness, as seen in Agatha All Along, could also make a comeback. The upcoming Avengers movie might feature Elizabeth Olsen’s character in the afterlife, where she’d have to strike a bargain with Death to come back to life.

As a huge fan, I’m really excited by the possibility of seeing Wanda Maximoff return! Not only would it be amazing to have her character back, but I’m hoping it could open the door to some of the more complex ideas from the comics – things like what happens to heroes and villains after they’re gone. It feels like the movies haven’t really delved into that side of the Marvel universe yet, and I’d love to see them explore it!

Alternatively, these two characters might meet wherever Billy Maixmoff, played by Joe Locke, and Agatha Harkness, played by Kathryn Hahn, appear in future stories.

Many fans believe that Billy’s story after the events of “Agatha All Along” will involve him searching for both his twin brother, Tommy, and their mother, Wanda.

This might lead Wanda to make a deal with Lady Death to bring her sons back, even if their appearance has changed.
