Elizabeth Moss stated that she agreed to star in ‘The Handmaid’s Tale‘ once she found out who would take over the role if she declined, realizing then just how keen she was to be a part of it.
In simple terms, the ongoing television series with a dark, futuristic theme (now airing its last season) features Moss as June Osborne – a character compelled to serve as a Handmaid and give birth in the nation of Gilead against her will.
According to the television series that premiered in 2017, inspired by Margaret Atwood’s book with the same title, the story revolves around June’s struggle to break free from Gilead’s repressive system and seek change.
On “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” Moss confessed that she declined the part of June not once, but twice before eventually agreeing to play it.
Moss explained that she agreed to take the role only after discovering who would have been cast instead, had she declined.

Moss explained that he wasn’t completely prepared to take on that commitment once more, which is why he initially declined when it was presented to him.
She went on, acknowledging it sounded ridiculous at the moment. But she was relieved to have fixed it. Later, they returned and graciously re-extended the offer, though she didn’t elaborate further.

What finally made up my mind was when they intentionally shared it with me – revealing who else they planned to give it to if I didn’t claim it. At that point, I responded, “Not a chance!
Without disclosing who her competition was, Moss expressed that she found it hard to picture anyone other than herself for the role of June, which was why she accepted the part.
She explained: “That was what sparked my realization that I had to take action. frankly, I couldn’t bear the thought of someone else taking on that role – I hope you understand. This was what finally made me understand just how much I yearned to accomplish it myself.
