FaZe quickly went from being a top contender at the Budapest Major to being on the verge of elimination after just two days of competition. They have no room for mistakes now, as every match could mean the end of their run.
FaZe Clan had a surprisingly rough start to the CS2 StarLadder Budapest Major 2025, losing two matches after what was expected to be a standard beginning. The losses are particularly concerning given the skill of their opponents and the team’s overall performance.
FaZe Clan’s first victory was against Lynn Vision, but it wasn’t a significant accomplishment since the team was later eliminated in the third round.
The team recently competed against NRG and Ninjas in Pyjamas. NRG is playing with their coach filling in for nitr0 in this CS2 tournament, and losing to a team like that is undoubtedly disappointing. Ninjas in Pyjamas haven’t had much success in major tournaments, and their results haven’t been very strong.
Man, FaZe Clan really messed up dropping those matches they should’ve won. Now there’s absolutely no room for error for them. They’ve only got two matches left in this first stage of the Budapest Major, and everyone’s watching to see if they can pull through these elimination games. It’s do-or-die time for them!

Match 1: FaZe vs RED Canids at the Budapest Major Stage 1
FaZe Clan and RED Canids are facing off in a crucial Round 4 elimination match. To stay in contention at the 2025 CS2 Major in Budapest, one of them needs to win two maps.

Stay tuned for stats and details of the FaZe vs RED Canids match.
The first-ever CS2 Major for RED Canids
RED Canids has earned a spot at the 2025 StarLadder Budapest Major after performing well in their region of the Americas. This will be the team’s first appearance at a Counter-Strike Major tournament, despite competing in several qualifying events previously.
Their performance isn’t great even at lower levels; they’ve only managed to finish in 2nd or 3rd place.
It’s already a bit of a surprise to see RED Canids make it to Round 4. Their win against GamerLegion was a fantastic result! They did suffer losses, though – a close overtime match against Fnatic (14-16) and a defeat against Legacy (6-13). However, all of these teams are tough competitors.
Dry FaZe without rain
Regardless of the competition, FaZe’s performance at the beginning of Stage 1 of the Budapest Major was underwhelming.
Letting go of Håvard “rain” Nygaard was always a questionable decision for the team. Now, after two major tournaments without him, it’s proving to be a serious mistake.
- FaZe Clan had the last lucky chance to play with rain at the EPL Season 22, and they reached the top 4.
- At IEM Chengdu 2025, FaZe played two matches, lost both, and got eliminated.
- The struggles of FaZe at the Budapest Major weren’t on many people’s Pick’Em cards, but they are pretty real so early into the event.
Jakub “jcobbb” Pietruszewski has taken over for rain, and it’s understandable why some might point the finger at him. However, the problem seems to run deeper than just one player. Earlier this year, even when Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski was with FaZe, he noted the team had difficulty bouncing back after losing rounds.
FaZe Clan didn’t seem to be at their best during the Budapest Major. Fans appreciate the team for their creative strategies, and Finn “karrigan” Andersen is normally known for his clever misdirection, allowing FaZe to catch opponents off guard. However, they weren’t able to do that at this tournament.
During their game against Ninjas in Pyjamas, FaZe attempted to use predictable strategies, and it backfired badly.
FaZe Clan still has a lot of potential! While they might need to make some changes to the team, they’re expected to improve and perform at a higher level eventually.
