Elijah Wood has strongly hinted he’s likely to reprise his role as Frodo Baggins in future The Lord of the Rings projects. He famously played the hobbit tasked with destroying the One Ring in the original film trilogy, battling its evil influence along the way.
Andy Serkis will direct a new movie called The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. The story takes place between the end of The Hobbit movies and the beginning of The Lord of the Rings films.
Although the movie’s plot is being kept secret, actor Sir Ian McKellen, who plays Gandalf, has hinted that both his character and Frodo will reappear in the film.

Although Elijah Wood hasn’t officially confirmed he’s in The Hunt for Gollum, he’s stated he’d be willing to reprise his role as Frodo as long as he’s physically able to do so, and doesn’t want to see anyone else take on the part.
He told The Times that while it hasn’t been formally revealed, Ian hinted at it during a conference last August.

There’s a strong possibility of a new movie being made, though I can’t confirm anything officially until it’s announced. I’m very excited about the idea, but it’s always a bit stressful when discussions about continuing a story in a world like Middle-earth begin.
As a fan, I think we all want to see this story stay true to what makes it great, but honestly, it’s just a blast! It really feels like the original team is back together, and it’s super exciting.
He added that he is “excited” about the latest film, which is set to be released in 2027.

After the interviewer mentioned that Ian McKellen didn’t want anyone else to play Gandalf, Elijah Wood added that he understood completely. He said he wouldn’t want anyone else to play Frodo as long as he was still alive and able to reprise the role himself.
I can tell how much fun this will be – especially seeing moments like Gandalf’s hat turning in the cinema. As a fan myself, I’m really excited to see how the whole story unfolds.
Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens—the team behind the successful Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies—are joining forces again for a new project called The Hunt for Gollum.
