Eleven Is Officially Returning After Stranger Things Season 5 & It Fixes A Major Issue

A new project is in the works that will bring Eleven back to Hawkins after the events of the Stranger Things finale, and it aims to address a major criticism of season 5. Although the ending has been debated, I personally enjoyed how season 5 concluded, as it generally gave the main characters satisfying resolutions.

The ambiguous ending for Eleven—leaving her potential fate uncertain—really surprised viewers, especially considering everything that happened in the season. Though major plot points like Will discovering his abilities and Vecna’s defeat were satisfying, the season needed more focus on smaller, character-driven moments, particularly concerning Eleven, and her eventual return should address this.

The ending of the series leaves Eleven’s future uncertain, allowing viewers to decide whether she saved her friends at a great cost or is now living a solitary life. The creators, the Duffer Brothers, have indicated they won’t reveal which outcome is the correct one.

The creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers, have confirmed that season 5 will be the last for the main characters. But fans won’t have to say goodbye completely! A new animated series, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, is coming soon. This series is a prequel set in the winter of 1985, taking place between seasons 2 and 3 of the original show, and Eleven will play a central role.

Netflix has revealed a trailer for a new animated series based on Stranger Things, which is planned to launch in 2026. While the original cast, including Millie Bobby Brown, won’t be voicing characters, the character of Eleven will still appear and her story is intended to address a plot issue from the upcoming fifth season.

How Eleven’s Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 Return Fixes A Season 5 Issue

A major weakness of Stranger Things season 5 is that Eleven spends too much time separated from her friends. Millie Bobby Brown’s scenes largely focus on her interactions with Hopper, Joyce, and Kali, leaving little opportunity to develop the emotional impact of her farewell to Mike. Their connection deserved more on-screen moments.

The show also didn’t spend much time showing Eleven’s friendships with Lucas, Dustin, and Will, a problem that continued in season 5. While Max and Eleven had storylines connected to Vecna, and it made sense for Hopper and Eleven to be together for much of the season, Eleven’s other friendships felt neglected and deserved more focus.

I’m really looking forward to Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 after season 5! It’s great that the show can revisit a time when Eleven was a strong part of the group, allowing for more scenes of the friends together. Combined with new monsters, Eleven back with the others, and beautiful animation, Netflix’s first Stranger Things spinoff sounds incredibly promising.
